The home builders abused loopholes and profited off the black of immigrants who would work for less. That to me is a gruesome thing. I’m a conservative and think that a laborer deserves their wages. Not equal pay that Dems believe

Construction executives have held multiple meetings over the last month with the White House and Congress to discuss how immigration busts on job sites and in communities are scaring away employees, making it more expensive to build homes in a market desperate for new supply.

I don't think for a hot second the US should stop aggressively deporting illegals, but the one point these people have is this:

Deporting people who shouldn't be here is only part of what needs to happen.

They also need to be reforming welfare so that able bodied Americans either have to take these now-available jobs, or they starve.

And finally, they need to remove all of the systemic incentives for families to break up and replace them with incentives for families to stay together. No more "no fault" divorce. Whoever is at fault pays and whoever is not keeps the children. No more welfare incentives to be brood mares.

Deporting the illegals is the correct first step, but there are two more that need to be worked on in parallel. Otherwise, we WILL have a labor shortage.

Purely a pocketbook play.

frick em. Let them bleed. Home builders have profited the most off illegal labor more than any other industry.

Odds on the same results from last time we went down that path? I'm betting the Republicans win again.

Homebuilders are concerned for several reasons:

1. Deportation takes away cheap labor

2. Deportation removes people from the rental market, driving prices of rental down.

3. If renting becomes a viable low cost alternative to home ownership, they will sell the homes they have built for less than they want.

Knowing Politico, they probably talked to one or two people and then made it seem like it was some broad consensus

Those home builders were selling into a market that helped create this mess. Use American products and people

How does this reconcile with most Hispanics wanting stronger borders and enforcement?

So, they can't use cheap illegal labor to build homes that are likely subsidized by us to house other illegals. Too bad.
