A liberal who pedals critical race theory isn't a positive character to lead any public institution.
Some of the most educated people are the most indoctrinated people on the planet...in love with their own infinite wisdom...
Read the bible...and tell me if humans are born racist?
Sinners of all kinds...yes
But now we have blacks leading in positions of power the notion whites are inherently racist.
Its a none starter for me...
Its so aggregious...I won't accept the good he might offer

Seriously, this is the golden age and a great time to be an educated black man in this country. Corporations and universities all want people of color for their board rooms and executive offices.

no, it is because he is promoter of critical race theory, which in my book, makes him a racist.
Critical theory is from Sociology and is based on a marxist critique of Society. It is not new and been around since the early part of the 20th century. It made its way into other disciplines in US Higher education at least by the 1980's.
I remember the like of Jessee Jackson going around to leading schools with radical pro-abortion feminist, gay rights activist and black student groups yelling hey hey, ho ho, Western Male based Education has got to go, etc. From that starting point, lots of gender, sexual and race/ethnicity studies programs were created across the academy. It found its way into Education pretty quickly thereafter.
With that said, I don't think President Tate is a racist, that label is thrown around too much by the woke left wing and I am not going to do what they do. I say give him a chance.
1) His academic track record is 100% better than King Alexander, who Bobby Jindal's LSU BOS (full of hard core right wingers) gave us. The guy was never tenured at an R1 University, first job was at Murray State as President. He followed his Father!, and the Murray State Board that hired his father in essence hired him. Does Nepotism not seem at play here? He went from there to the Cal-State System at Long Beach. Again not R1
2) Tate got tenure at Wisconsin-Madison and is well published in his field. Yes he uses Critical theory, but unfortunately, that is not uncommon in the education field. He was at Washington U in Saint Louis, became a Dean there and was a Provost at USC.
3) He is much more supportive of athletics than King Alexander was. Who, in my view was actually anti-athletics.
I listened to his press conference and found him far more engaging in that short Introductory speech than anything I ever heard from F King Alexander who was a total 100% clown.
With that said, I am not fan of Critical theory. And while President Tate used that Theory as a young Assistant professor in his research, the way you respond to his research is to provide alternative theories and methods in researching the same subject matter (e.g., how race impacts Math education, etc).
Also as President of LSU, he can't dictate what theories are taught in every College/Department. Curriculum matters at LSU per LSU official policies starts at the Faculty level within a department and goes up to the College level, then University level, etc. Not the other way around.

How about we hire a president that you don't have to bend over backwards to defend?
Posted on 5/12/21 at 8:57 am to Bjorn Cyborg
Right?
Why pick a guy you have to read long articles to understand what he’s about?

Sorry, but anyone that believes in Critical Race theory should be nowhere near LSU leadership. It needs to be stamped out, not accepted in any way.
It is bogus and divisive, and needs to be challenged. You don't fight racism with racism.

You keep fighting the good fight.
I would say you are "white knighting" for this guy, but that seems a bit inappropriate.

You keep screaming in the dark.
I would Say you’re ignorant, and that feels very appropriate so I will.
Willfully ignorant.

Tate got tenure at Wisconsin-Madison
That's literally where modern American Political Correctness was born. Donna Shalala at UW-M.
Combine that with all of his many, many CRT articles and that's enough for me to say, "Hard pass."
No offense.

I am not defending him or supporting him. All I am saying is the LSU BOS hired him and he will get my support in that I hope he does a good job. I am no fan of Critical theory, as I said, but King Alexander was no different. Came out of Education and was also a supporter of Critical theory, just he never was able to publish anything in any academic journals.
I don't remember the push back when he was hired. I suspect because most of this board would never criticize Bobby Jindal and his appointees that hired the King.
The only push back came from the LSU Faculty who criticized the hire from day 1, not only because of the King's lack of Academic qualifications (he had none for this Job) but because he followed Daddy as President of Murray State.
So I am not defending the hire nor I am I against it. The reality is the LSU BOS hired Professor Tate. Now that he is President I will hope he does a good job and support him until he starts making decisions that clearly show he is doing a crappy job.
The LSU Presidents going back to Mark Emmert, hired back on 16 April 1999 have been hit or miss. Emmert, hired under Gov. Fosters tenure was excellent (crappy NCAA leader). He resigned in 2004 and was replaced by Sean O'Keefe, who while Blanco was Governor, I think that was done by politics as Bush was looking for a place for him to last. Nice guy, horrible President. Lombardi was hired by Blanco's BOS. Great President, but politically pissed Jindal off who fired him in 2012. It was controversial, the Blanco Board members still around did not back it but Jindal got him out and we got King Alexander in the Spring of 2013. Horrible, Horrible, hire, the worst of the bunch going back to Emmert.
I did not support all of the hires above, 2 of them I did (Emmert and Lombardi, 1 neutral (O'Keefe) and 1 did not (F King). But once they were hired I supported them in the context of wanting them to do well by LSU.
I am personally neutral on Professor Tate, so sort of in the O'Keefe area. I now support him as I want him to succeed as his success is LSU's successes.
So my question to you is given the qualifications or in the case lack of with O'Keefe and F King, did you go after them the same way are with Tate (who is in fact better qualified than those 2 guys).

So that makes it ok.... Gotcha. Strong argument.
Critical Race Theory is.... racist. It states that a white person is racist and there's nothing they can do about it. It gives black people a built in excuse to ask for preferential treatment and built in excuses when they fail at whatever they endeavor. To defend critical race theory is inexcusable.

Even if you hate the guy this is such an LSU move. Hiring a guy away without talking to his current employer. Didn’t this happen to Ryan Nielsen with the Saints and it blew up in O’s face?
So we should have called South Carolina and told them we were interviewing their employee? Not sure that’s protocol anywhere.

Chicken: It was already at LSU, F King Alexander was a Critical theorist. Trained in the same Educational Phd Programs that Professor Tate worked in. In fact F King was at one time at Wisconsin-Madison, just did not get tenured there (or anywhere else for that matter).
It has been at LSU for years, the College of Education, or many Professors there are Critical theorist. Go look at some of the faculty research and profiles.
Had LSU hired a Female President whose background was in Liberal arts or Education, chances are she would have read and been taught Critical theory from a gender perspective. I do believe there was a female candidate from Kentucky among the final 8 who had a Liberal arts background.
Like I said, I am no fan of Critical theory and how it is applied with respect to Race/ethnicity, gender and sexual orientation issues. But you can't say someone whose research using critical theory on issues of race can be canceled anymore than you can say someone who is a legal scholar and Law School Dean who wants to be LSU President and part of the Federalist society, which embraces the late Judge Scalia's (my personal hero) originalist conservative interpretation of the USA Constitution be canceled.
My guess is that if Interim President Galligan was similar to the Federalist Society and Judge Scalia in terms of Judicial theory, the push back would not be the same.

CRT is a fairy tale. Should he implement measures based on CRT, he needs to be cancelled.

Again, you don’t want to know what he thinks, you want an easy label and to make a reaction.
Cant you see it’s willfully ignorant to form an opinion of the man without actually reading what’s he’s been putting out in the past 10 year.
