You can't say "that is incorrect" just because the facts make you look like a dumbass
I linked to the history of the Cape Colony and the presence of the San. Feel free to educate yourself.

It IS true that the area was sparsely-populated, because the San were hunter-gatherers. The “empty” myth arises from the fact that (for the most part) the southward migration of the Bantu-derived peoples had not yet arrived that far south.

You do realize that in certain parts of South Africa, especially in the interior, the Dutch were the first humans there?
Not remotely accurate. Read my link to SA history. The San had been there for millennia.

So, is there a statute of limitations on that excuse?

As another poster stated, see Southeast Asia.

it's sad to say (because of how terrible many of the colonial masters were), but it's the truth

SSA was basically in the bronze age when it was colonized

how many written languages existed in SSA pre-colonization? I've heard 0 but that seems too low

they had no concept of modern medicine, technology, etc. hell, agriculture wasn't even common in many areas

making the claim that had colonialism not happened, they'd have caught up to the modern world in 500 years is laughable. this is not Asia with dominant social hierarchies and monocultures. SSA had countless cultures, languages, etc.

You can add to that architecture. The only structures there prior to the EITC arriving were made from mud and straw with a few sticks shoved in. Meanwhile in just about any other part of the world people were building huge stone and rock buildings that have survived for centuries. Some of those other people had been doing so for thousands of years.

SSA has always been a shithole. It will always be a shithole.

Is your point that the Dutch pre-dated the vast bulk of the Bantu migration? That is certainly correct, but the San pre-date both.

TJ was right. It happens. Just sack-up, admit it, and move on.

No I was just being cheeky because the non-arrival of the Bantu-derived people you referenced struck me as irrelevant.

You mean, the mini-genocide of torture and murder? I'm glad they have such a lighthearted attitude about it.

But they will all soon be trillionaires, so that's pretty sweet.

No. They just know how to farm and you don't, just like Zimbabwe. Don't believe me? See you in 5 years.

My point may not have been clear. There exists this silly myth that the entirety of modern South Africa was utterly devoid of human life when the Dutch arrived. This is demonstrably-false, as the San were present.

But ot IS true that the ancestors of 99% of modern South African Blacks (there are only about 10k San descendants) had not yet arrived. The White argument (vis-a-vis the Bantu-derived majority) was always “We were here before you.”. This was largely true (there were a few Bantu settlements in the extreme northeast) and thus had some merit, but completely untrue vis-a-vis the San.

A business partner of mine lived in Rhodesia growing up. His parents were originally from the U.K. and were doing quite well in their new homeland....., most of y’all know what happened in Rhodesia before it eventually became Zimbabwe.

Any hoot, they flee to SA and live there several years before deciding to immigrate to the US in the mid 80’s. My friend/business partner’s parents must have either known what was coming or they just got lucky!

You can introduce technology and knowledge without colonialism.

Considering how an outside foreign power came and conquered much of Africa you would think white Southerners would sympathize with Africans instead of the outside European powers which wanted to install their way of life on Africans. Colonialism not much different from Reconstruction.

But you can’t (or wouldnt) completely create an infrastructure for a place that isnt your colony.

How much of the 3rd world would have any real sort if infrastructure, were they forced to do everything on their own?

To add to that, a not insignificant chunk of black South Africans are either first- or second-generation descendants of refugees who fled from the post-colonial wars (1960's to 1990's) in places like the Congo, Rwanda, Mozambique, Angola, etc.

There are wings of the ANC that have long had an ardent communist streak dressed up in racial grievances, and they have garnered more and more power in recent years.

Not to mention that the ANC announced four or five years ago that they were going to model themselves on the Chinese Communist Party, right before massive Chinese investment came in.
