My dad was an engineer at a factory when I was young. They hired a couple dozen employee's lids who were in college every year to fill in while people were on vacation, etc. So I got to work a lot of different manual labor positions from the assembly line to the warehouse.

I told my dad I couldn't believe how little these guys got paid because it was hard/hot work. I'll never forget what he told me..."REB, those guys don't get paid much because anyone can do what they do. You've got to be able to do things others can't do to make good money."

Sadly, I didn't take his advice.

Wait, I can get a $30k loan just by being White? All these years, I thought I needed enough collateral or verified income. What a fool I've been.

This is true but it cuts both ways. During an oilfield boom it's the welders and truck drivers who are worth their weight in gold. The office guys are much easier to replace.
