Without freewill, you can cannot choose to enter into a relationship with God. With freewill, you can also choose alternative paths. As has been mentioned in these threads, the other side is Balaam's error, that is mentioned in Numbers, in multiple chapters, in that he himself did not hope to engage in sin but (self-righteously) lead Israel into disobedience and sexual immorality and worship of idols in order that God would hold true to His Word. Baalam got his just punishment or reward.
