Is he dumb?
Does he have ZERO other options?

Working for the Government in a capacity to use or support violence against other sovereign countries to get them to do what we want is the last thing I would want for my son.

This is a very contradictory statement. Would be the same if you tried to combine wicked smart and Democrat also.

My son is transferring to Bragg and he has read many of your posts and thinks you’re OK, for an officer.

Where is your retirement home?
We live outside of Tampa right now. Have narrowed our choices to staying here (love the area), moving to San Antonio (stationed there three times) or heading to Fayetteville and moving back into our house (least favorite option but the best economic move).

Colonel Wolfhound would be a nifty screen-name. You should consider it.

In any event, I salute the man and the rank!

I retired in 2019....just in time.

None of my sons will be subjected to the shitshow we have now.

Where the hell did you hear that from? Tuition assistance pays $4,500 a year towards your bachelors degree. If you go over that or work towards a masters, then yeah, it’ll come out of your pocket, a grant, or GI Bill.

Thank you, Wolfhound. /salute

I got out of the military about 23 years ago and am grateful that I had the opportunity to serve. I won’t say it made me a better person, but it opened my eyes to a lot of things.

I would still recommend a tour for most people.

I’ve been in the Air Force 18 years now… C-17 Maintenance by trade and now I’m a First Sergeant stationed at Fort Bragg.

First off, don’t listen to a lot of these posts. The military is still the military. Over the past year or so, yes, some stupid shite has came down the hatch but as someone stated already in this thread, it’s being corrected for the most part.

The military does have its PA hoops to appease the masses, but the lethality aspect of the military is as strong as ever and that won’t change.

If he wants to get into computer or intelligence, that’s a very highly recruited field. If he joins the Air Force and does this for 4 or 6 years, he’ll have his choosing of outside work if he wants to get out, but if he wants to continue and he excels then the skies the limit these days.

The military has changed since I’ve came in, but so has every thing and every other job out there. The Air Force is still a great option for most young kids. Is it for everyone? No. Are there liberal asshats that make it seem like the military is changing? Yes. However, if you get in the right command with the right leaders, then this is by far one of the best gigs you can get.

Pay is not competitive, tho. More money on the outside.

I don't agree with this at all. I am currently at the end of my career and its just not a place I would trust with my children right now. For example:

The Navy is essentially penalizing sailors if they aren't vaccinated by starting a random COVID test every two weeks of only the unvaccinated. Until command vaccinations reach 85 percent.

The Navy is a shite show of epic proportions. If he were talking about joining the Navy i would say hell no, don't do it!

But he's talking about his kid going to the Air Force. They've been operating on a corporate model that is unchanged for decades. He'll have a cush 4 to 6 years learn a valuable skill, get the post 9/11 Gi Bill and he can move on or stay. Even if Joe starts another war the AF for the most part is not on the front line.

Kind of. My online masters degree was paid for by the GI Bill while I was stationed in Texas. I obviously had to ensure I met daily mission requirements. You can earn a degree while on active duty.

They're not the same caliber of Soldier as decades past and maybe our Government doesn't need them to be with all the drones and upgrades. I wish them well and a fulfilling career, but they ain't shite to the GWOT peeps.

I served my country in the U.S.Army. Viet Nam era. I retired with an honorable discharge. I would definitely urge you to try to discourage your son from joining now. The reality is that right now this country and all it's institutions (government, academia, religious, entertainment and military leadership) are in varying stages of being corrupted. I mean serious corruption.

It pains me to say that, but it's true.

Facts are stubborn things - John Adams

Memorial Day seems an appropriate date for your official retirement. Speaking of which, tell us about your new avatar photo?

Who was Raymond Losano? What would you like the world to know about him?

Yuck.

Arm chair quarterback here, but I’d def stay in the Tampa area. Plenty of opportunities for veterans there too. Lots of businesses that have ties to the DOD, as well as a pretty robust SOF network.

My wife and I had a conversation 2 years ago about the possibility of my daughter following in my footsteps of becoming an officer. We agreed that it would be a good thing at that time. Weve since changed our tune.

It's only been 8 years since I got out and its unrecognizable. They're quite blatantly indoctrinating our servicemen and women. Look at their new recruiting campaign and tell me that they arent actively recruiting young men and women of a certain political background who wouldnt think twice about following potentially unconstitutional orders. Scary thought
