My take on it is that they knew full well nothing was going to happen, but the build up to it on MSM and the visuals of the security measures in D.C. were all they wanted. They talked it up as if it were indeed going to be Insurrection Part Deux, and now will say that the Capital Police, in cooperation with federal agencies, did such a great job that it discouraged the insurrectionists. I wish I didn't think that way, but that's how this ole noggin operates.
