Trump flirted with that and clearly backed away. Obama and the Clintons abused government power in faking the Steele Dossier and using it to persecute, and spy upon, the Republican nominee, and then to undermine the sitting US President.
quote:
We already handed it to him. His capacity for weilding that power has only about 30 months left. The question is where do we go from here? Trump’s weaponization of the government is coming to an end. The weaponization by the Obamas and Clintons are in the past. What now? Are you in favor of packing SCOTUS? Further revocation of the Senate filibuster? This is what your party is screaming for. And these actions would end our constitutional republic.
I’m not defending weaponization by Obama, Clinton, Biden, Trump, or anybody else. If the FBI abused FISA, if people misled courts, or if government power got used against political opponents, condemn it. I’ve got no problem saying that.
But that doesn’t make Trump disappear.
He didn’t just “flirt” with overturning an election. He pressured state officials, pushed false claims, leaned on Pence, and then watched it all boil over on January 6. That ain’t flirting with the line. That’s putting your boot across it and then acting surprised somebody noticed the footprint.
And this is where the standard seems to change. When Democrats abuse power, it’s the end of the republic. When Trump does it, suddenly it’s just Trump being Trump, or it’s already winding down, or everybody needs to move on.
I can’t ride with that.
On court packing and the filibuster, I’m not signing off on every bad idea some Democrat throws over the fence just because I’m criticizing Trump. If court packing is a power grab, call it one. If gutting the filibuster damages the Senate, say that too. I’ll sit right there with you.
But none of that changes what Trump did. You can point at Obama and Clinton all day, and I may even agree with you on some of it. But it still doesn’t turn Trump into a defender of constitutional order bubba.
That’s the part I can’t get past. You don’t fix one side playing with matches by handing the other side a gas can and calling it peace.

I was honorably discharged. I’m not posting my DD-214 for an anonymous noodle-armed internet ankle-biter, but I do appreciate you proving my point.
You think a veteran disagreeing with Trump must be fake, because in your little world service to the country and obedience to Trump are the same thing. They’re not.
Some of us served America. Some of you baws just serve a politician and call it patriotism.

You are so narrow in your view of waste.
I didnt hear you mention once the State of Minnesota fraud and California fraud or every other Blue State that has been frauding this country for 12 years under Obama and Illiterate Biden.
What about the Harris Waltz States that are 2 of the biggest fraudsters that ever lived.
You chose to criticize our President for wanting to Celebrate Freedom and the 250 years of Freedom.
Ill gaurantee you what was spent to celebrate 250 was less than 1% of 1% of what corruption is found in your blue controlled States.
You were in the Military so what. My dad and many other family members were too. That doesn't mean you are an expert on anything. It means you served your country just like Republicans have.
Let me hear what you disagreed with on your Presidents. I want to hear your praise of that incoherant Biden and that Communist Obama.

One has to wonder what the founding fathers would think of our society with all its warts in which the median household is living in 2500 ft.² of air condition with indoor plumbing, kitchen appliances that would make their head, spin, electricity, two cars, television, the internet and it's available access, ease of access to healthcare, common independent retirement on savings, etc.
It is a thought true, not just of our founders, but of our ancestors in general.
Even slavery, which is rightly viewed as a national historical travesty, brought descendants of horribly impoverished, African regions to a present situation which, for all the complaints, is infinitely superior to what would be experienced by those same individuals had slave importation never been a thing.
Looking at where we all once originated as individual peoples, and where we are now as Americans, should install hope, not angst, as to where we have yet to go.

Those “”whining libs” you describe are
a distinct minority, thank God. Unless you are suggesting that anyone who disagrees with Trump must be a “whining lib”,,,

I’ll agree with Yglesias on the narrow point: the left has sometimes confused sneering at America with being sophisticated. That’s foolish, and it doesn’t help anybody. But Trump is not America. Criticizing him is not America-bashing.
The US will continue for another 250 years minimum as long as there are more Americans like Trump who love the nation vs Democratic Socialists like you and your ilk who are doing your damndest to finalize the Fundamental Transformation of America into a socialist/communist/Cultural Marxist hellscape.

Former Viper pilot here, frankly I think you need to change your tampon with all due respect. You can cry about fuel and maintenance all you want but have you ever been on an active flight line, especially at war? You wouldn’t be complaining about the flyovers yesterday. Lastly though, if you’re truly a vet then wouldn’t you want to see your country’s power on display for its 250th birthday? Our enemies do shite like this all the time just make themselves look strong and tough to the United States. Not NATO, the United States. It’s ok to let the dog off the chain for the cameras to let the people get a fantastic show but also to remind those enemies who daddy still is and always will be. We could have driven a few hundred tanks down Pennsylvania Ave too if we wanted so count yourself lucky, I have no idea if you could have survived such a show thinking about fuel consumption you might have had a heart attack. Something tells me if Kamala Harris did this you’d call it a great geopolitical move.

You’re jumping into the middle of a conversation and arguing with a position I never took.
I never said waste only exists when Trump does it. If Minnesota had fraud, prosecute it. If California had fraud, prosecute it. If Democrats stole money, charge them. If Republicans stole money, charge them too. I’m not protecting crooks because they wear the right jersey. But “fraud exists somewhere else” is not an answer to what I said. That’s just whataboutism with a fresh coat of paint.
And no, my DD-214 doesn’t make me an expert on everything. I never said it did. It just means I don’t need a lecture from you on whether I’m allowed to love my country while criticizing a politician. That’s the part you’re missing. Trump is not America. Biden wasn’t America. Obama wasn’t America. No president is America.
I criticized Biden plenty. I thought he was too old, too weak as a communicator, and should not have run again. I disagreed with Obama on plenty too. But none of that requires me to pretend Trump’s ego parade is sacred because somebody slapped “freedom” on the banner.
You want consistency? Here it is: waste is waste, corruption is corruption, and politicians don’t become holy men because they wave a flag. I served the country. I don’t worship presidents. There’s a difference.

Your complaining on the money spent to Celebrate 250 years of Freedom because all you do is complain. You don't Like Trump so every dollar he spends offends you.
Using our Military as scenery . You pompous malcontent it was a show of force to the world. And pride for our Country.
It was to make America proud and celebrate our defense of freedom all over the world.
Sounds to me like your military views are clouding your judgement.
I could give a rats tail if you like or don't like Trump. Your words show a lack of pride in the country and maybe your vanity is bigger than the President.
I loved the Celebration and thought when the President brought out hero's from all the wars was Patriotic. Not vain.
Ill clap like a trained Seal any time my country is celebrating a milestone like 250 years of Freedom. I was there in D.C for 200 years and enjoyed it immensely. I didn't care about who was President then and it wasn't about President Trump this time. It was about America.
An at the age of 65 i would volunteer to serve if needed now.
You can complain that's your right but this trained seal will love America and want to celebrate its milestones till the day i die no matter who is President .

Former Viper pilot or not, you still managed to miss the runway. Nobody said America shouldn’t have airpower. Nobody said pilots shouldn’t fly. Nobody said I’m embarrassed by the U.S. military. What I said was the military belongs to the country, not to one politician’s vanity show. That point keeps flying right over the target.
And spare me the “if you’re truly a vet” routine. A DD-214 doesn’t mean I have to clap every time some politician uses military hardware as stage lighting.
I’m proud of American power. I’m also old enough to know the difference between strength and insecurity. Strong countries don’t need to talk like drunk stepdads at a tailgate yelling “who’s daddy?” every ten minutes.
You say our enemies do this kind of thing all the time. Exactly. That’s not the compliment you think it is. Authoritarian countries love giant military spectacles because they want people staring at the hardware instead of asking questions about the man on the balcony. And no, if Kamala Harris did the same thing, I wouldn’t suddenly discover a love for taxpayer-funded ego theater. That’s the part you’re missing. (I don’t worship presidents.)
You can love the country, respect the military, and still refuse to turn your brain off when politicians wrap themselves in the flag.

Most politicians, like Hollywood celebrities and top professional athletes, have big egos. It’s part and parcel. From the moment Trump took office in 2016 he was attacked non-stop by a dishonest partisan media. Falsely accused and investigated by dishonest democrats to gum up his first term, and had the justice department weaponized against him to try to prevent him from being elected again. Multiple assassination attempts egged on by leftist politicians. All because he was an outsider threatening to disrupt the corruption, identity politics, and globalist rot that had entrenched itself in DC.
Trump isn’t perfect but he’s not what the liberal media mis-characterizes him out to be and he 100% loves the United States of America. You can go back to his early days as a young New Yorker and he’s been saying the same things for nearly 50 years and espousing his love for America. The man knows and loves American history.
I’ll listen to criticism of his policy or ideas but the moment someone starts off clamoring about his “ego” lets me know that this is the emotional lens they process everything through. This condition is called TDS. And so I just summarily dismiss it.
