Bab El Mandab and Hormuz could be obsolete or less important.

I understand that pump stations and terminals could be attacked.

But more options are becoming g available.

Saudi already has some alternate pipelines to the Red Sea. Saudi and UAE are constructing pipelines to the Gulf of Oman that should be in service within 2 yrs. Iraq is wanting to construct a pipeline to the Med but it goes through Syria, will need some guarantees of protection.

I legitimately think it’s the only realistic option. Take the LONG view.

We’re not going to nuke or invade. Letting them put up tolls and control the strait (completely walking away) would be a catastrophe. The best thing we can do is make the strait obsolete.

Might take a long time but I think it’s the permanent solution. Build pipelines around, find alt routes for goods, continue expanding other forms of energy, it’ll all help.

It’s going to hurt for awhile but I think it’s the best option.

If ~20 miles is considered narrow then maybe

I guess my one question is this.

If we walk away from the straits and start using pipelines more, I ran and still sell oil to the Chinese and Russians. Correct?

Or we could have just not invaded. None of this was a problem 4 months ago. If it was such an imminent threat why haven’t we bypassed the straight already? I mean bibi has been telling us to bomb them for 30 years.

How do you protect hundreds of miles of pipeline from drone attacks etc?

Bury it. Preposition repair materials near pumping and transfer stations where generators, etc. may be above ground.

I totally agree. Massive f*** up from Trump, total unforced error, probably biggest blunder of either term.

But the fact of the matter is this is where we are now. Trying to figure out what’s the best path forward from here, most options are bad…

So static areas are vulnerable over and over.

I get it's better than the Gulf but not a winner.

I think what we are witnessing in the middle east is a paradigm shift around the SOH. Even if the Iran war is a bust the new ways, which will take time will pay off in the future and make Iran less relevant in the oil world.

Same think with Ukraine. Trump seems to got the NATO countries off their arse and spend more on defense.
