"Jew Down" is the controversial statement

quote:

The president of a Trenton, New Jersey, council earlier this month said her city's assistant attorney was able to get the most out of a personal injury claim against the city, as they settled at a lower amount because they were "able to wait her out and Jew her down."

quote:

Then last weekend, councilwoman Robin Vaughn from Trenton's West Ward made remarks that showed support for McBride, saying the term "Jew down" was a verb meaning to negotiate fiercely, and in no way a hateful term.

"We really need to get a more acute meaning and understanding of 'anti-Semitic.' I believe her comment 'Jew down' was more in reference to negotiating, not 'I hate Jews,'" Vaughn said in a New Jersey Globe report published Sunday. "Inappropriate in today's PC culture absolutely, but to Jew someone down is a verb and is not anti-anything or indicative of hating Jewish people."

With friends like these...

However, this statement just finalizes the circle of TDS

quote:

Yudin went on to blame President Donald Trump for creating an environment that fosters a rise in anti-Semitism in the United States, saying "It's America in the 1930s again."

So it’s Trump’s fault that she hates Jewish people?

Isn’t Trump’s daughter and son in law Jewish?

that's literally the generic "this is why i used a potentially slurring stereotype-based idiom" explanation

but since she's got double minority status AND likely doesn't know what idiom means, she'll get a pass for that idiocy

Can we get her opinion on N word rigging?

I believe it is a term of endearment and admiration and in no way meant as “I hate African Americans”.

And I just wonder if any effort would be expended if it was a similar expression involving any other ethnic group.

oh yeah this "Donald Trump created this environment" is so funny on multiple levels

first, you have Democratic politicians in the cross hairs here. how in the frick is Trump's alleged behavior making THEM racist?

second, you have the historical beef between the urban-black population and jews. Trump didn't start this and "Hymie Town" is a great example of a politician from 30 years ago doing the same thing.

but yeah, muh Trump

it's not just that, the lady who made that comment (who isn't the one who used the slur) is obviously dumb as frick

the people who would virtue signal and rage obviously know this so they're like "god DAMNIT it's Robin Vaughn"

So if I say I’m going to N- word - rig this wiring to make it work that’s just a verb right? An action. A verb right? Am I following her the right way here?

The chink in the armor of her defense is that it's based on engaging in niggardly behavior.

***EDIT***

Really??? Nig-gard-ly is a blocked word? It's origin comes from Old Norse ("hnoggr", meaning "stingy") through Middle English ("nigard"). It far predates even the discovery of the western hemisphere by Europeans, much less has anything to do with a similarly spelled current racial epithet.

Just don't get mad when I use a term to describe you when you make it look like you're rich, but you're really not.

I love that a Republican can be guilty of “dog whistle” racism by saying something like “we need to crack down on inner city crime,” but a Democrat can use an actual slur and explain it away utilizing the heretofore unknown verb-form exception.
