Every college major at every single public college should be required to post the job stats of their graduates when students are signing up for classes. They should force students to read and sign the updated stats at the beginning of the fall semester each year.

List the job placement stats in the field of study (% of people who actually work doing what they majored in, not people who work as a bartender or baristas after), then post average salaries of graduates 1, 5 and 10 years post grad.

If it’s a science class or something that feeds into a graduate program, post success rates for graduates both getting into programs and their success rates once they are in the programs.

If students knew all this stuff on the front end it would be harder for them to claim ignorance on debt later and it would force schools to actually start caring about the success of their graduates beyond just getting them out the door. Right now the incentives are set up for schools to just get bodies in there.

Everyone pays back what they consensually borrowed.

There. “Crisis” solved.

Do you think that someone that is getting a degree in "gender studies" is going to give a shite about job placement stats...

Why don't you just make the bullshite degrees ineligible for student loans?

People in their late teens and early 20's are known for their financial acumen and decision making.

Simply allowing the current system to continue while saying, "but you agreed to it!!!" isn't going to solve a goddamn thing.

Sounds nice but you can't mandate people disclose their compensation. Any data you get is going to be biased beyond utility.

Successful baws in particular aren't sharing their comp. It's none of a school's business, annoying fundraising calls aside.

First of all, this isn't a crisis. People have loans out. Not a crisis, it is called people with a loan.

What are bullshite degrees? Many science degrees don’t lead to earning much of anything for a very long time (after grad school and working in a lab for a long time or med school or whatever), if ever.

No crisis has ever occurred after people have over-leveraged their credit.

There is no good solution now that government took over student loans.

No loans until you are 21.

21 becomes the age of majority for everything.

Bankrupting creditors by forcing them to take losses will certainly fix any leverage problems..

Certainly not my suggestion.

Just observing that the structure of education and the payment thereof, as it stands, is not sustainable.

This. Or just put a limit on how much in student loans can be taken out based on the degree field and let it be a sliding scale based on the average future earning potential that degree brings.

Then it will change. Just because something isn’t sustainable doesn’t make it a crisis. Transferring the debt obligations of individuals onto tax payers and shareholders isn’t acceptable or a solution to this largely imagined “crisis”.

They want to be un/underemployed because it strengthens their status as victims and allows them more time to protest, attend Bernie Sanders rallies, and participate in Antifa activities.

This is the correct answer, or at least cap the amount of money a student can borrow.

It will change only when it becomes a legitimate crisis, IMO.
