The warnings were all there; Biles has not hidden the immense, suffocating pressure she's been under. Still, there will be those who slam her withdrawal (the circumstances of which are, at the time of publication, still murky, but were initially described as "a mental issue") as being evidence of her failure. It is exactly the opposite: what Simone Biles did on Tuesday is more impressive than winning.

I am not going to pile on Biles, because I don’t know what actually happened. But this article is total bullshite, regardless

Were they there in 2016? She was 5 years younger and under at least the same pressure then.

I don't care she quit. Thats something she has to live with. Celebrating quitting is fricking infuriating.

Simone will never get this chance again as long as she lives. It's a shame, not "impressive".

What are the odds that MS Jeva Lange ever competed in any athletic competition?

Only a liberal would praise a quitter more than a winner.

What *warning signs* ?? No one KNOWS why she quit, really. Or if she'll return. How is this journalism??? WTF?

Exactly! And that's what makes this journo's piece so damn ridiculous. She's under pressure to send SOMETHING, so what the heck, just say quitting for non specific reasons is more stunning and brave than - ANYTHING.

Job completed. Time for a coffee.

She was wearing a leotard with a goat on it a few weeks ago. She brought a lot of the pressure on herself.

Pro tip:

Whatever this nobody did would be revered by the nutty left on the level of storming the beaches of Normandy.

Imagine only having to be great at your job once every few years and quitting because the pressure was too high.

I’m clinically depressed and even when not treated I performed a high pressure sales job every day. No sympathy whatsoever
