Dang how much further can they go with this. Bought some cereal yesterday at kroger and the box was as narrow as a spiral notebook. Snickers are about 3/5 the size they used to be and they were .69 now 2.00. Keurig used to be 12 to a box and now only 10. Do yall see the same thing happening at Costco or Sams

I remember being pissed when they raised the price of a candy bar from a nickel to a dime. Live long enough and you'll see a snickers and a coke for 20 bucks.

I don't feel so bad for myself and our generation, though the amount of shrinkflation is significant since Covid.

I feel our children, and their children. It is part of the reason many Americans feel despair.

I am encouraged by this administration. Energy costs need to continue to drop; the number one component of all goods. The Iran conflict didn't help, but it will, in the end. The world didn't need Iran w/ a nuke.

Showing my age….had a Stop ‘N Go at the entrance of our neighborhood in BR around the ‘78-‘80 range and can remember riding my bike up there and getting 3 candy bars(usually a 3 Musketeers, Milky Way & Twix) for $0.77 with tax. Candy bars were $0.25 and the tax was only $0.02.

Haven’t bought a candy bar in years, but get sticker shock when I look at the prices.

If you are worried and complaining about this, you didn’t plan long term with your life so that you aren’t concerned with this. Inflation has always been a fact of life, so plan accordingly.

Unless you hide everything you have and go on welfare and Medicaid.

Sometimes I wonder if the poor actually have it better.

So America is finally going to un-supersize itself, this is a good thing.

Some of you should leave the US boundries to realize how good we have it and how wasteful we are. Not to mention fat as hell.

Here ya go... it puts this into a better perspective.

Grok:

How much has the value of a dollar decreased over the last 50 years

Thought for 4s

Over the last 50 years (roughly 1975 to 2025/early 2026), the purchasing power of the US dollar has decreased significantly due to inflation. A dollar from 1975 is now worth only about 16-17 cents in today's terms (or equivalently, you'd need roughly $6 today to buy what $1 bought back then).

I haven't either, but I did stop in and get some donuts for the kids this morning. Mixed dozen and a gallon of chocolate milk was $25. I swear it used to be half that. First time I've ever actually thought to actually look at how much I spent.

Boxes of Mike and Ike were $1 for 5oz.

Now range between $1.25 and $1.79 for 4.25oz.

Makes me rage.

Energy prices won't stabilize until providers recoup all of their losses for chasing the green energy fairy. Same with automobiles. They continue to manufacture EVs that lose money and make it up by jacking up gas and diesel powered. See Ford billions in write offs as proof.
