We play football and basketball games on Thanksgiving and Christmas. So what is your point?
Also not enough money to be made for us companies to give time off

The Lord’s Day (Sunday) is the only Bible-approved Christian holy day and yet few Christians take the day very seriously, but treat it like another Saturday. Perhaps Christians should take that day more seriously before getting upset about other days.

Go be a teacher if you want a week off for every holiday. Easter is on Sunday so you already have that day off.

Is “Holy Week” something that is just now becoming far more prevalent? I’m a nearly lifelong Christian and this terminology is completely new to me.

Well there wouldn't really be "Christmas" without Easter as well.

Yes, absolutely. It's the most important holiday for this country.
No. The most important American holiday is Independence Day. Nothing else even comes close.
Memorial Day is 2nd. We honor those who lost their lives in service to America.
Why should the Federal government establish a holiday to celebrate something that a large percentage of Americans don't even believe in?

Why not add the Orthodox Christian calendar, too?
That's a problem with the leagues, not something for government to fix.

I never really understood why Easter wasn’t more celebrated than Christmas.
Easy. Christmas is about rampant consumerism.

Christmas has historically been a big NBA day and now the NFL is trying to take it. What's your point?
And Good Friday has always been a government holiday as far as I can remember.
There are 2 reasons why you don't see more time off, IMHO.
1. Christmas is much more than a religious holiday. Your typical people celebrating Christmas probably think of it at least 80/20 in terms of the holiday itself and the religious aspect. Santa, the songs, the lights, snow, etc. is part of our culture at a much higher level and is beloved for that reason, not the "put Christ back in Christmas" stuff.
2. Spring Break. The yutes already get a week off. Here, as far as I remember, it was always linked to Easter, either the week before or after. They're not going to give them 2 weeks off t the end of the year.

Yeah, that has been something that has bothered me as well for the last 25 years. Christmas gets the big billing whereas the most significant event is treated at least secularly like an afterthought.
My own view is that Easter falls on a different calendar day each year and can be anywhere from the end of March until the 22 -23 of April and the day itself is always on a weekend (Sunday). Also over the last 35 years there has been a shift in that it also coincides with a "Spring Break" particularly down South, so it's a beachy kind of weekend. Also Christmas suggests gifts and something of a formality, Easter does not and never has been like that.
I can remember as a kid though, Easter was a bigger deal. There was always a big dinner at my grandmother's house... and you had better not miss it. Also there used to be some Easter kid specials on TV. Also, Easter Sunday was never complete without attempting to watch the Ten Commandments on TV start to finish....I 'm not sure it was even on broadcast TV this year.

I'd be all on board with Good Friday being a National Holiday like Christmas. It pretty much is in South Louisiana. That's what everyone does, church & boil crawfish or fry fish with family.
