Who is Karen and what is her overblown status?

Are we talking golfball through a garden hose or something well beyond?

If more than 42,900,000 people are confirmed to have had CV-19 or if 61,200 people die from CV-19 this year in the USA, I will change my mind.

In total, the CDC estimates that up to 42.9 million people got sick during the 2018-2019 flu season, 647,000 people were hospitalized and 61,200 died. That’s fairly on par with a typical season...

I actually hear it was closer to 18k with H1N1.

But I do not think Trump will get the leniency that past presidents got from the CDC. Every person will be accounted for here in real time.

It would have to be significantly worse than 2017-18 flu season, which happened (70K deaths) without anybody outside of healthcare paying much attention to it. There's a growing mountain of evidence that the denominator in all the scary projections is vastly understated. Even the professor from Imperial College, whose model the overreaction is responding to, has walked his estimates way back.

Also, the skepticism isn't just about the virus itself. It includes things like how practical it is to shut the country down for 6 or 12 or 16 months, and if you're not willing to do shut the show down for that length of time, why are we bothering to do it for a month or two? We've been told there's no herd immunity to be had and that climate won't make a big difference, so if we all come out of our shelter in two months and head back to work, how is it possible we won't be right back where we are today 8 weeks later?

Another question you never hear addressed - what's the mortality rate of the folks dying from COVID-19 before the virus hits them? How long does the typical 83 yo with COPD and congestive heart failure have to live without COVID-19? How do they feel about cratering the economy for their kids and grandkids in order to get them 8 more months of living with COPD and congestive heart failure?

Just ask yourself did H1N1 overrun our ICUs and kill this many people in the 30-60 age group?

When 20 year old people start dying en masse in the streets I'll officially care. I am not overweight, in my forties, run 260 miles a month and don't smoke. If I do get it, I probably won't even know I have it. So I don't give a shite and aren't running around with a fricking mask or gloves or lysol wiping everything down.

You run around 8 miles a day?

I agree, I'm interested to see how the CDC "revises" these numbers later

About 9. Then I take the last 2 days of every month off.

I'm seriously interested in hearing legitimate answers.

I think Dr. Brix does a good job of laying out the reality, and I would encourage you to watch her speak in totality. The numbers simply don't match the hysteria.

No, not really. I've run a few longer distances races and a few marathons but I've just added miles to my load over the years, little by little. I haven't always been this crazy. I'm not terribly fast but just enjoy running, plus getting to eat all the calories after.

You should know the CDC revised those numbers down since that article was written. They now estimate ~34,000 people had flu-related deaths that year.

The H1N1 threshold.

Didn’t seem like a big deal then?

Capisce?

Then I would say it's as bad as the flu.

So far this year about 23,000 have died from the flu.

Is the Chinaman Bat Eater Flu close to that yet?
Serious question.

The seriousness of this virus is irrelevant to me. The coming recession, if we're lucky enough to avoid a depression, will do more damage than a bunch of dead old people.

Overblown. It's been here. Was way more prevalent in December, January and February. No test available. Want to see numbers appear? Create a test and demand for something that is already spread amongst us. Numbers are going up because we are just getting significant numbers of test available nationwide and there is still an 8-10 day delay on results.
