let’s push this button that is the only button out of 10,000 which would cause us to lose the 2022 midterms

Yep. They are tone deaf if they think this is a good time to go after this.

When would be a good time?

That was one of their test cases for creating law out of thin air and personal opinions. It deserves to be pushed back against, just like gay marriage and every other time they legislate from the bench.

Well this isn't apples to apples. The state allowing a medical procedure to take place and the state rounding people up and forcing them into camps to be killed are no where near equivalent. The difference is in the force.

I'll take the flip side of this just for argument's sake.

Trump surged in popularity among Hispanics in 2020: Politico Link

Hispanics generally oppose abortion by a higher margin than do whites and blacks: America Magazine Link (Jesuit)

Cruz, Hawley, and Lee are setting up the 2022 primaries. They are trying to draw the pro-abortion nutters out of the shadows and into the news where Hispanics (and others who are generally against abortion) can see who they would be aligning themselves with if they want to vote with the pro-abortion folks.

They are also setting up left-wing candidates and even blue-dog democrats to get questioned more prominently on their stance on abortion.

This is an attempt to appeal to Hispanics and to get more conservative voters to the polls in 2022.

Social Issue Politics 101. When you need to get voters to the polls, pull out the social issue boogeyman and whoop-up the masses to stop [insert political party/candidate] from destroying our [children/culture/religion/history/the poor, etc.].

Abortion is not it, right now. We need more political momentum going into 2022 and then 2024. Once you reach a large consensus then you can make these risker moves to make some serious gains
Ive heard this for decades. It's never the right time for some.

When you have the rare chance, you take it. No waiting until later because you don't know what the future holds. The left doesn't wait and we have been sliding in that direction for 50 years now.

I think it is a mistake to do this before the 2022 elections. The left has little to run on. Right now, the GOP will pick up some votes from women whose minds could be changed. December 24th, 2022 would have been a better time.

See, you can’t even bring yourself to consider that really thoughtful, really smart, really good people see things differently than you. For millions, it’s not a “medical procedure”. It’s murder. Not rhetorically, but literally. That it’s state sanctioned makes zero difference.

A gassed Jew is no more dead than an exterminated baby. Why does force matter - we weren’t talking an amazing government. We were talking about the country and all that comes with it.

A medical procedure to kill a human being.

Who are you to put an arbitrary date or timeline on deciding when a human has or doesnt have "life"?

You're on the wrong side or history and science on this one.

Thank you for that - it is not often that I see an obvious point that I had never given any thought towards on my own. You have planted a very fertile seed in my head. I'm not able to process it fully in my mind at the moment, but this is the only thing that makes any sense for people like Cruz, Hawley, Lee to bring forward this issue at this time.

Gives me hope. It is certainly the right thing to do - just had practical misgivings over the timing. Thanks for quelling that..

Yep - IF we survive as a moral civilization, then in another 50 years the current day 'right to choose' advocates will be seen as no difference from the brown shirted storm troopers from the 30s. Perhaps lower.

Just pray that we haven't struck back a year too soon after being in steady retreat for 4 decades.

Had to reword it to make it more correct.

No doubt. I hope I didn’t come off as too much of a cynic regarding the political motivations behind this.

They should hold one hand out to the SCOTUS and shite in the other one. See which one fills up first.
