I said low wage to explain people who have a lower set hourly wage. Very different than income because yes the set wage is offset by tips.

I’m very aware that not all people in the service industry are kids trying to make some beer money. I have properties and businesses in a few markets popular amongst tourists. People would push back if I told them what some people make bartending and serving.

I need to take a major pay cut; get a side gig waiting tables once a month, and have my boss tip me most of my salary at dinner. How are they going to track all this?

I have a place that the whole front of the house is in a tip pool. I can now expand that pool to include the back of the house. I can use cash to seed the entire pool and save thousands a week on payroll taxes. I can also pay my cooks a lot less per hour because now they can walk with more money because they don’t have taxes coming out of their bottom line.

So many services are now going to be working on tips.

If I can voluntarily withhold a tip (like a certain segment of the population, but I digress), then is is not payment for service. It is a reward, above and beyond that service already provided.

Good maybe this will reduce the amount we tip for every damn food service imaginable. If they no longer pay taxes I can reduce my amount of tip for service a good 10-15% and that server will get the same take home. Win win imo

I'm dropping my tips by 22% to cover the tax paid by me earning the money to give a tip.

Let's see them do overtime and SS next. No reason they can't bang out the other 2 the same way. Also, they could simpley forgo ot and simpley make it "no tax on 401k's " with an no tax on SS. Would be the best route to go. Discontinue Roth and just let us live a little.

You don’t have to tip. It isn’t required.

Are you aware of something called "Tipped minium wage"? The rule is restaurants get to pay their servers a lower "minimum wage" of say $2.14/hour with tips making the difference to get them to the standard minimum wage of say $7.25.

If the worker does not receive enough tips to get to the standard minimum wage, the house has to make up the difference in pay.

Your tip is a form of compensation to the server and no amount of mental gymnastics will change that fact, bud.

This issue is settled and has been litigated. You have not found some new novel loophole.

My only concern is that people will find a way to abuse it. Don't pay me. Tip me!

I wonder if I can talk my contractor into reducing his invoices and allow me to tip him. win-win

I don’t see overtime and SS happening. Massie and Roy will kill that as part of an agreement to pass the bill.

Well it is being repealed. A 99-0 vote is a resounding agreement tips should not be taxed, Bud.

It is a deduction from income, so therefore it is still income, just not taxable for up to $25K.

You are aware that municipal bond interest is "tax-exempt" at the federal level and is taxable to some states.

I am right and you are still wrong. Keep on seething tho.

For my son's birthday I took my son, my brother, and his son to dinner at Fleming's steak house. Appetizer, steak, dessert. The bill was $500...no alcohol was ordered

A $500 bill for 4 people isn’t extravagant.

I didn't say it was or wasn't. All I'm saying is that a server at a Fleming's, Morton's of Chicago, or other high end prime steak house that averages $50 to $100 per table in tips probably isn't low income at all.

Imagine four guys on a business trip that had that same tab plus liquor, or a couple of bottles of wine.

Why should they not pay taxes on their income while everyone else does?

What so many fools do NOT understand is this:

the amount of taxes they take from ALL of us are criminal. we should ALL rejoice that ANY taxes are reduced. they don't need HALF the amount they take from us.

so, to be pissy and jealous is the foolish way.

When they stop taking hundreds of dollars out of my check every week (and then expect more every April), I will rejoice. Until then, I will keep right on scratching my head and wondering why I should be happy that someone doesn't have to pay tax on their "tips". I don't get to receive overtime either. MAYBE someday, I will be able to collect SS. If that ever happens, and they pass no tax on SS, I will get some benefit from all this. I say let the servers pay taxes like the rest of us!

Recently I asked him how no tax on tips would help him and his answer was it would bump his pay by leaps and bounds. He said most of his income is tips and this would be huge.

It passed 99 - 0. And was co-authored by a Dem. Seems like both parties want to help your bartender.
