SCOTUS steps in and halts drawing of new congressional maps in Michigan, Ohio

The Supreme Court on Friday halted two lower-court rulings that struck down congressional maps in Ohio and Michigan as unconstitutional partisan gerrymanders and ordered the drawing of new congressional maps before the 2020 elections.
Republican lawmakers in both states asked the high court to put their respective lower-court rulings on hold. The Supreme Court granted those requests, with no noted dissents.
The maps in Michigan and Ohio had been struck down by two different federal courts as partisan gerrymanders that violated the Constitution. The federal court in Ohio invalidated the state’s congressional map, under which Republicans held 12 of the state’s 16 congressional seats, in a ruling this month. The court in Michigan, meanwhile, ruled last month the state’s redistricting plan crafted by the GOP-controlled legislature was an “extremely grave” violation of the Constitution.

Hell - thats damned near unassailable - how can that be labelled gerrymandering???
Are they basing the "gerrymandering" on the basis of the voter outcomes??

Good. Gerrymandering is as American as it comes. Especially in today's age where state power has been neutered, if you want to control congressional districts win your local and state elections.

I just love the irony of the Dems bitching and moaning about gerrymandering.

Ohio’s looks very normal. House districts benefit the GOP in those states because it’s a lot of rural and small towns and Dems are all concentrated in tight areas of a city.
Dems would do better in southern states if they didn’t create minority majority districts and drew them out to be more 50-50 white black. But they want black reps and not white Dems. So they draw districts with 90% black voters instead of mixing those voters in two purple districts with some white suburban moderates

That would mean Democrats would have to run on content other than identity politics and class warfare.

I’ve never heard about partisan gerrymandering being unconstitutional before. Only racial gerrymandering is supposed to be unconstitutional.

What about Wisconsin, didn't the dems get their fake panels to declare gerrymandering for dems in this State as well?
