It is, imho, literally as big as Roe v Wade.

Probably bigger in terms of the future of the country.

Any lower court will have to acquiesce to the SCOTUS decision on Callais ... if the issue is race based but also on a Constitutional basis.

Anything remotely considered unconstitutional will be smacked down. Anything that appears to be done strictly with a reactionary, or purely political, mindset will have to be struck down.

It will be nice if it goes this way, but I think we're going to have to wait a while to get there as there are going to be TONS of fights. For instance, not only would this scrub Cleo's district it would also jeopardize Troy's abomination (and with good reason).

What we're looking at here is the very real possibility of there being almost no minorities in Congress and you know that's going to be one helluva long, drawn-out fight.

In that vein, do voters in a district suspected of being racially gerrymandered have standing to bring suit?

VA and CA were not based upon race.

Actually, they were both based upon liberal stronghold districts that included illegal immigrant included Census numbers.

So laugh ... but you're wrong.

Both were redrawn to give citites, dark blue cities, power over rural conservative voters.

Unless you're claiming "blue" is a race ... then you're wrong.

Although, my grandpappy used to refer to blacks as Democrats with race based intent implied.

Regardless, both the CA and VA maps were redrawn for unconstitutional reasons ... with clear intent to give the Democrats an advantage.

IMO, they should start with the 5 largest pop/geographic centers and radiate out.

1) N.O.
2) BTR
3) LC
4) Shreveport
5) Monroe

6) would likely be a coasta parish w/ Lafayette/Houma as the center for geographical starting point

grab all whole parishes touching the pop centers (making up the greater BTR or N.O. meter areas, ect)

look at the commuting to metero areas

I do believe Louisiana has enough minority residents to justify a 2nd district, but it has to make sense geographically and culturally.

The problem is how the minority population is spread out.

A second district is going to have a wild spread shape to pick up enough minority voters.

The population does that, not the maps.

If this advantage isn't based on race, what' the constitutional argument?

This isn't even something the USSC has the power to decide.

My hope is that this opens the door for discussion on these states that include non-citizens in the census and therefore including them in their population to draw districts. this whole mess needs to be cleaned up and i hope this was the first stepping stone to that cleaning.
