A lot of influential Louisiana Republicans are hoping that House Majority Whip Steve Scalise will return home in 2019 to challenge Democratic incumbent John Bel Edwards for governor. But after his moment in the spotlight during President Donald Trump's first State of the Union Address on Tuesday night (Jan. 30), Scalise might have other options to consider on the national stage.

Scalise would be big for Louisiana. It would be so beneficial to have such a high profile governor who is beloved by the public.

In a perfect world, yes, he would come save LA with Conservative policies.

But, ultimately, he is in line for the next SOTH.

Scalise needs to stay in dc where he is on several committees, not come back to la and mess around with governor.

I thought the same for vitter and look where he is now.

They can help la much more in dc than being governor

I may get some flack here, but Louisiana can not afford to have Jeff Landry as governor. Besides the R next to his name, the guy doesn't have a single remarkable quality.

I worry that he is yet another corrupt politician as well.

I would freaking campaign for Scalise if he decided to run!

I would absolutely support Scalise for Governor. Much better candidate than Kennedy will be.

Governor of LA would be a step down. He’s on the national power train.

Scalise is a major hero in DC right now. Everyone loves him, everyone wants to be around him, standing ovations everywhere he goes. He can do no wrong at present.

only reason to leave DC for a governorship is if you want to run for POTUS one day, otherwise being a rep is much more lucrative

I agree with all of this. Sadly, for his sake, I don't think Scalise should run for Governor.

I'd love for him to run for Governor but he's got bigger shoes to fill than Governor of the 2nd worst state in the union. He's going to be Speaker of the House one day and maybe VP one day.

I should have added that I think he would be a good governor, and I’d vote for him and campaign, but he’s better for us in DC

He’s next in line for Speaker of the House when Ryan steps down next year. Scalise has hotter irons in the fire than being governor. By this time next year, he could be third in line for the Presidency.

If the Republicans lose the House, this could happen.

If they retain it, I think he'll stay. Leadership is a sweet gig.

Absolutely - we need a true LOUISIANA LEGEND running shop out of our beautiful capital building. The tallest in in the country, according to many. It's true.

Disagree, he is remarkably stupid.
