Not one bullet was justified. The cop was NEVER in danger.

I lived through an TLDR story where the cops made a crazy mistake but we complied and only got a little roughed up. Some of us were possibly on active duty and intoxicated so we didn’t file any complaint

This is outrageous - no excuse.
But, it is a blip compared to the entire panoply of cop interactions.
For every one of these unacceptable incidents, there are millions of extraordinary heroism, and hundreds of millions of normal/caring behavior.
To even mention this incident in the realm of police brutality 'issue' is a red herring. It does nothing to bring closure to the 'issue' - since he 'issue' is totally fabricated in the first place - so all it does is stir the shite pot for all to endure the sickening odor.
Find a profession - ANY profession - that is 'more honorable' than police --. in the sense that there are ZERO atrocities.

That was attempted murder. That cop had no reasonable reason to fear for his life.

Ok buddy. I never said cop was in the right. He was not. Not sure why you are so butthurt after reading context and facts.

I agree that this is not the majority of cops or interactions that occur. The problem is these types of barney fife moments end up with someone dead ( or in critical condition). I don't have an answer on how to fix it, but these dudes need to spend max time in the slammer.

Is there more context to this?
It's looks bizarre.

Looks like the wrong color to be a national issue.

The cop has already been fired, and I hope he gets attempted murder charge.
Have not looked at any of the details of the situation, but it sounds like this is the right thing.
What to do in these cases where there is no justification is come down hard on the individual but not tar and feather the whole profession.
Maybe even look at the leadership to see how someone like this could have been on the job. what is their training like?

Yeah. So sick of salacious headlines. The dude literally started driving in reverse when the Cop told him to get out of the car.
The shooting was probably unnecessary. Particularly in light of the fact there didn't appear to be anything in the video that suggested the officer's life was in danger.
That said, even if it was a case of mistaken identity, the kid throws the car in reverse and starts to drive away when the cop tells him to get out of the car. If the cop was clearly in uniform, then WTF? (If not, then I probably understand the kid's reaction). But the salacious headline is complete BS. The cop didn't just open the door and start blasting the kid while he was eating a hamburger.

I would say this would be investigated but the chief is to busy going after DeSantis

As someone said, the time between the cop opening the door and starting to shoot is like 4 seconds, so yeah, he pretty much did.

Based on your simping for the cop in this thread, it's quite obvious that it's not my butt that's hurting. Hope you got your monkeypox vaccine.

Exactly. It's a case of mistaken identity plus bad cop...at least from the information that we know.

I'm inclined to side with that. But with all the videos of people reaching back, which usually does indicate someone reaching for something, that reaction is not surprising.
Cops are not cold blooded, but I do believe their is an instinct to survive and not knowing which interactions you have with the public could turn deadly.

How many Poli-cred points do you get for using that word?

FOUR SECONDS
The cop was ready to start blasting as soon as he opened that door.
Period.

On second look, you hear a "OW...frick!" from the cop before he opens fire. At first I thought maybe his foot got ran over, but I think it was the open door hitting him.
That was the kid, I'm almost positive.
