So the security guarantees offered to Ukraine include all the benefits of being a nato member without being a member. Europe tries to sell this to putin that ukraine won't be in nato.. But he's not buying.

I would suggest some paranoia is justified.
That was the main point of my post, is to try to try to get people to understand the mindset of the Russian people.

How is he playing Trump? Did he stand him up on the meeting? Why go through the effort of coming to the US just to “play” him?
It would have been a lot easier and smarter to try to do that on a phone call.

He told Trump 1-on-1 he would do something when they met in Alaska. After a weekend of meetings with US advisors and tweets Trump feels good going into today.
Now Trump meets with Zelenskyy and other European leaders Putin said he changed mind or that’s not what he meant or wanted or would except.
That’s playing Trump. Putin did it on a phone call in the middle of a meeting with European leaders

As long as Putin has troops and guns he will fight. Nothing but total surrender by the Ukrainians will satisfy him. He will keep grinding until they quit.

Regardless of how this ends, Trump will claim it's because of him and claim victory. In truth, if he would have been much sterner and more consistent with Putin 6 months ago, this would have been over by now. This is not a real estate deal, it's much more complex than that.
