In Russia and most former Soviet states, "Victory Day" is a celebration of victory over Germany in WW2. It is not related to the Ukraine war at all.

The irony is that 2/3rd’s of modern Israel’s Jewish population are descended from Ashkenazic Jews from central & Eastern Europe. The ones that were able to survive the Holocaust in Germany and Stalin’s purge mass immigrated post WWII.
Of course, the other great irony in the Russian-Israeli history is that those same Ashkenazic Jews were the leaders and instigators of the Bolshevik revolution that led to Stalin’s rise to power and his obliteration of the Russian Jewish population.
God’s got a hell of a sense of humor, doesn’t He.
