re: Roseanne's tweets may have been politically incorrect, but they were not racist

Of course it wasn't racist. It may have been a little offensive but it wasn't even close to being racist.

I mean that's fine. I think she invited those connotations herself. It might not have been meant as racist, but the historical association is something only the very stupid don't seem to know about.
Again, the context is important. Yes it is unfair but this is the society that we've created. To undo those associations, or to make them milder, we would have to undergo a lot of racial healing that the country isn't ready for.

I maintain that Usher looks exactly like Curious George. Because he totally fricking does.

So if Roseanne would've called ValJar a Lizard Person, you would've been cool with that?
Because historical context is what's important, not definitions or intent?

Roseanne's biggest mistake was forgetting that Trumpkins are not the only ones seeing her tweets. Of course they loved it as evidenced by a thread earlier today before she got fired. But there's a big diverse country out there that's not gonna have it.
She also evidently forgot that saying bigoted things and getting away with it is only reserved for Trump, not his followers.

I don't care one way or the other about what Roseanne does. I'm simply saying she invited those racist connotations herself.
And comparing VJ to a lizard would have made her seem like a complete insane person. But there wouldn't be the same type of uproar. You know that too.

There's no way to know for sure if she intended it to be racist. I do know that if I walked into a bar full of black people and said "it looks Planet of the Apes in here" that I wouldn't be surprised by the reaction. I'm not sure how Roseanne could grow up in this country and not know how her comment would be received. Whether you think that's right or wrong it's the reality we live in and she'd have to be incredibly oblivious and stupid to not know that.

She knew exactly what she was doing

I DGAF about Roseanne one way or the other. I DO think it's funny she thought she could get away with such blatant bigotry. She's not Trump, only a Trumpkin.
I just wonder when Trump is going to tweet/ show support for Roseanne comparing a black woman to an ape. You know he's chomping at the bit, because his base will eat it up.
Trashy. Ah, living in the Age of Trump

You should do a social experiment around town telling black people they look like apes.

I had no idea she was black, and I’d doubt Roseanne did, either.

What a moronic statement. I’ll assume you didn’t read my post. I said it was rude and she deserved to get fired.
I can ask for an accurate portrayal of her actual words without defending her.
There are lots of things you shouldn’t go around saying to people that are not racist.
Posted on 5/29/18 at 7:56 pm to Bjorn Cyborg
C'mon, man, what she said was racist and vile. You know it. I know it. She knows it. We all know it.
Let's not play stupid semantics games like the libs do. What she said cannot be defended.

Rude, for sure.
The definition of vile is “morally bad; wicked”
I don’t think it meets that bar.
Racist? Definite not.

False. So extremely false. It was absolutely racist and she deserves to have her show cancelled.

but they were not racist
There are 1,000s of words that are racist and the number grows every year. For example, 8 months ago I learned that the word 'merit' is racist. Two months ago I learned that the term 'per capita' is racist.
