Ron still won’t give his position on Ukraine.

Despite the seemingly cordial tone of the interview, Mr. DeSantis at one point became irritated with his interlocutor.

Mr. Charter writes that when he asked Mr. DeSantis how he would handle American relations with Ukraine, the governor referred “to Biden being ‘weak on the world stage’ and failing at deterrence.”

Mr. Charter pressed for more detail: How would a President DeSantis handle the conflict in Ukraine?

“Perhaps you should cover some other ground?” the governor replied. “I think I’ve said enough.”

It’s a NYTs article but the link is to an archive site in case you don’t have a subscription to the NYTs: LINK

In Ron’s defense he hasn’t declared that he’s running for president (despite the Murdoch/Fox News push, getting chummy with big donors and doing his world book tour and acting like he’s running for president) so foreign affairs is not necessarily in his purview as governor. Lol…

If he's not commenting because he's not running (or not yet running) I think his answer should make that clear. Not sure if he's trying to keep the high ground or if he just doesn't want his position known or what.

FWIW, this is who is running his campaign and probably a good tell on his position on Ukrainian:

I am willing to let the man fill out his obligation to the state that elected him as their governor.

To wade into the insult/counter-insult field at this time is worthless.

it is a momentous decision and any missteps now could prove fatal.

There is time - continue doing your job - respond to actions only in areas where you have control or unique expertise.

Don't try to be all things to all people until you have the mandate to do it.

The best thing for DeSantis is to be the 'people's choice after the backstabbers kill off all the opposition' - stay out of that fray until you are committed to seeing it thru.

Sticking a toe in now by commenting on issues you have no control over or expertise in seems silly to me.

Be a great governor - let your actions speak to the public about what they can expect from you.

I would be thrilled to have Desantis on the ballot in 24 - but I would not want it after a brutal civil war between the trump/never-trump forces. <== THAT will kill any chances of survival.

Probably a very general stance. Nothing specific. Like I support Ukraine funding. Or we need to support Ukraine until Putin is toppled. Or we need to get to the table and work out a peace agreement (Trump’s position).

Like poli board posters and people on the street Ron is allowed to have a position on Ukrainian. Being governor does not preclude you from current events. Ukraine is a big news story and we are spending a lot of money there. It would be good to know a potential GOP candidate’s position on the issue even if he declines to run.

If he won’t say anything about it, it’s because he’s scared to.

He’s afraid or he knows that it’s a position that many in the non-RINO portion of the party may not be fond of.

At the moment it seems like general support for Ukraine with the people is 60/40 for.

But time is not going to be friendly to that support.
As this thing drags on and the money drains out by next year when the campaign really gets going support for Ukraine will be more unpopular than popular.

Yeah, that would shed some light on his likely position - at least the position of a person strongly influencing him. If that's her getting the lipper from Zelensky, God help her.

Another failing for RINO Ron

Trump has been extremely clear that he is anti war and anti American involvement in wars overseas. He’s an actual patriot putting America first. Ron would keep funding this stupid war his entire presidency

Deliberately provocative!
Anyway RDD answered that, the Times was set to run with it as akin to a presidential campaign announcement.

DeSantis has a supermajority in the FL Legislature. Before he announces for POTUS, he has a legit interest in getting through this legislative session first, and enacting laws that would highlight what he'd like to accomplish on a national scale.

That is his time horizon.

Absolutely agree. Which is why Ron should wait until 28, allowing Trump to maximize his eligibility (for our benefit) to right the shop- that Desantis will clear the path for Desantis to achieve maximum efficiency and success.

I’m guessing this ratio is probably a bit fluid depending on what exactly you might mean by “general support.”

To be fair, does Trump have a clear position on this one? I know he takes the stance that we wouldn’t even be here with him in office, which I actually tend to believe. But what now?

And does Trump’s peace plan involve Russia keeping Luhansk and Donbas?

Good observation. Trump is putting out signals that make one feel like he would be against but he hasn't said that.

The candidates today are going to be careful not to lock in something pseudo popular today that they already know will be a negative in a year.

Typical political move. He always says the right things at the right times. Seems a little too perfect. Says a lot about who he really is.

He is an undeclared candidate. There are disadvantages to that. Your opponents can attack you and it's difficult to parry. However, there are advantages. One is that you don't have to declare your positions on controversial issues. It's been that way as long as I've been watching, which is coming up on half a century.
