Yeah, it's a people thing.
The company I worked for in NJ. My supervisor, head of department really knew his stuff. Very likeable down to earth guy who I never had going to for problems or help, he knew the job like the back of his hand.
The guy on the nightshift that came in after me was a know it all jackass. Lazy mofo. He could criticize to no end, but couldn't take receiving it. Pushed a lot of the job onto my shift, and the shift after him.
It was entertaining watching my boss get onto him. Sometimes they'd make each other so mad they'd slip into their native tongues, yelling at each other.

Without knowing who interviewed, how the candidates scored the program, and how the program scored the candidates aim not sure how to conclude anything about the selection of these residents.
Maybe it’s a crappy program and all of the US candidates scored it low?
If US candidates scored other programs higher, and got scored highly, they’ll match there. But faux outrage is a lot more fun!

Strange that the leaders and innovators that have led the way in healthcare and in technology in general for a couple hundred years suddenly can not cut it in those fields so they have to rely on foreign visa programs

Show me where they are unable to? There are over 200 accredited med schools in the US.
When the time comes and you are in need of life saving surgery, I highly doubt you will be asking if the doctor was born in the US. You will be asking the one most qualified.

Americans, especially US trained docs, don't apply to programs like that because they're not good. Probably high workload and no teaching, low chances of getting in to fellowships afterward. The NY residencies outside of a few are known for that. The hospitals host residency programs because a chunk of their salary comes from CMS and it's cheap labor.
There are a lot of empty FM and IM residency spots throughout the US because they aren't good and there's not enough US trained doctors to fill them all.

Law Schools outnumber medical schools 4 to 1. We aren’t producing nearly enough doctors to keep up with demand.

Basically this. There are almost 45k residency positions available each year and about 30k U.S. graduates.
These residents are not preventing Americans from being trained.

Americans don't want those dirty manual labor jobs so we need all those foreign workers
Americans aren't smart enough to become Doctors so we need all those foreign workers
Nobody is saying a foreigner can not be a good dr or that we should not have and want good doctors regardless of where they are from.
But to simply look for every excuse when it is shown that there is more than likely a problem with abusing a program is not acceptable
There is nothing wrong with wanting fellow Americans to be protected against people abusing a program to benefit themselves
