I have been looking and haven't seen anything to confirm. I would think that this despicable of an act would set the internet on fire.

In modern times and ancient times, you would be correct, but historically the Romans, as newly christened Catholics, destroyed their fair share of what they deemed Pagan and unholy monuments. Such as Greek architecture.
Temple of Zeus- permanently closed, the great statue of Zeus was dismantled and lost to history.
Temple of Artimus - Survived a great fire purposely set, but during the pagan persecution was permanently closed and likely dismantled. The fate of the statue is technically unknown.
I say all the above as a Catholic.
It doesn't take away from the atrocity of ISIS demolitions to Egyptian monuments that will never be seen again. Each of those count deserve an IED to the a-hole.
