The problem with Louisiana is the people who live here. Nelson isn't going to be able to fix this state by pulling policy levers.

I'd rather him be at the helm if the Republican Party has unilateral legislative control than any of the other candidates.

Sorry, you're going to get Jeff Landry as your Republican/conservative candidate in the runoff, and you're going to like it.

Y’all are gonna get another Dem and you know it.

Yeah, running prisons and jails is possibly the one thing we do well.

Funny thing though, We keep incarcerating people, locking them up, but the prison population continues to grow. Maybe, our prisons are crime universities. They certainly produce successful graduates.

I was there Friday morning when he said it at the forum and you literally do not know wtf you’re talking about. He was criticizing the size of state government’s commitment to healthcare to seemingly every human in our state.

In comparison to those statutory costs, we are a health care plan that also incarcerates people and paves a road from time to time.

You should stop posting for awhile.

now should question Nelson as to why thats at the top of his list of things the state does?

In terms of imprisonment rate per 100,000 people, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Mississippi have the highest rates, 680, 639, and 636, respectively.

It's not a question...it's a fact.

The question to all candidates should be what the hell do they have planned to fix it and the MANY problems of the state.

As brilliant as Nelson is per some of you, he still has not figured out we have a spending and government growth problem in La and his “revenue neutral” income tax plan is hog wash and will fix nothing. Dude is full of shite.

Repeat offenders need to stay in jail for a long time....most are not rehabilitation candidates.

This is what his quote is criticizing.

Have fun with your status quo. We're on such a good path.

Poor health. Poor education.

… and generally poor.

The only things Louisiana does well are food and Mardi Gras (and occasionally a good LSU or Saints football season).

The biggest problem with this state is that we expect something for nothing.. It’s evident in how we treat ITEP exemptions and how very little innovation happens here that can create new industries or jobs.

We don’t have an abundance of industry here, which makes us beholden to oil and gas, and we think that tax cuts and trying to woo companies with tax exemptions will resolve everything. The only thing missing in that equation is that companies don’t want to/won’t relocate jobs to a state or city with a poorly educated workforce.

Our largest cities are riddled with crime (and this has been happening for far too long and happens in large part to the low expectations many Democratic mayors have of the people who live in these cities) and many rural areas in this state are poor and ignorant (with a large helping of racism). So, that leaves anyone wanting to do better wanting to run for the hills (leave the state), and leads to a perpetual brain drain.

Over 40% of people who live in this state are on Medicaid. That speaks for itself.

Conservatism, small government, liberalism, nor progressivism are going to solve these issues. We need to scrap this shite and start over.
