He was born and raised and lives in Farmville, VA. That’s in the Piedmont region. He’s not from Appalachia and there are no mines in Farmville. Nor are there mountains.

Wiki, so who knows?
John Flournoy was the first to mine coal near Farmville. He started in 1833 working on a seam, which was two feet thick. In 1837 the General Assembly granted a charter to The Prince Edward Coal Mining Company to mine and sell coal. This company was still in operation into the 1880s.[6]
Another coal pit in the 1880s was worked on the W.W. Jackson property. The coal from this small pit was used to fuel his blacksmith shop on the same property."[6] The coal deposits are part of the Farmville Basin, one of the Eastern North America Rift Basins west of modern-day, Virginia State Route 45.[7

There are no active mines in FarmVille.
To the best of my recollection, they have not mined there in over a century.
Some mining was done during the civil war there I believe. I’d have to look it up.
Mr. Oliver grew up on a farm. Lives on that farm and isn’t fro Appalachia.
He’s not the coal miners daughter.
Has a great voice either way.

Of course not, but very few who live that close are not affected by the mining industry. Given the marxist democrats penchant for destroying the industry and livelihoods of those in the industry, his point is valid.

I grew up in Appalachia.
FarmVille isn’t close.
I’m a Virginia native. Grandfather died of black lung.
It’s a great song but he’s not from a mining community and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Baw don’t have to be a miner himself to rep miners in his Lyrics and speak up for the blue collar workers, he straight up said in his intro that he worked in a factory

That he does. That's a fantastic vocal performance for being live. Miss when singers could actually do that.

this is what the childers/isbell crowd love. see fans of musicians know that there will be songs that they don't like or love. Do you understand just how left leaning Cash was in his day?

Agreed. Never said differently.
Was just letting the guy that said he was a gold ole boy from Appalachia that he’s not.
Song is awesome.

Easy song to play if anyone is interested. Standard tuning, capo 3. Em C G D. Listen for the hammer ons.
Now singing it like he does? Not as easy.

I want to disagree with you but history is on your side. I can hope he does not follow the same path for now though.

Just got around to listening. Very powerful and great voice. Wonder how long before hordes of the obese come knocking.
