I work in construction and all my customers in retail are not budging on new builds, in different sectors across the country. Apparently sales are way down since summer, and they are losing money.

Is this anecdotal or is this being mirrored across industries? Is inflation finally catching up to consumer spending habits?

We will not get any official government numbers to confirm until after the election.

I sell on Amazon and it died down the second week of August but that always happens that time of year with back to school expenses and last-minute vacations. I was thinking it would rebound but September was horrible.

I work in an industry that sells products in grocery stores and bars/restaurants and can tell you that across the US, but even more so in Louisiana, the sales are way down this year and they were down last year too. No one is talking about it in the media but people dont have enough money. In my opinion the consumer retail sales drop that Ive seen personally is completely due to inflation and average people running out of money every month.

I think people usually have a budget for the year, but with inflation over the last few years people are running out of cash now, with two or three months left in the year. Many people are on fixed incomes, where you can easily see how they might run out of money if costs of goods have gone up but their income has not. But even people with jobs get some kind of year end bonus or a tax refund in April/May that allows the first half of the year to be covered but now in October people have run out of money.

My employer handles stock lifts, store closings, changeovers etc. and many of our vendors have definitely been holding back. Some folks really do get scared as hell during an election year though so who knows.

I work in I.T for a retail clothing company.

Our numbers are way down and we’re told
Most of our competitors are struggling too. The entire industry is struggling mightily.

We own a specialty retail business here in Bham. Our customers are mostly immune to recessions and the inflation pressures. With that said, our sales are flat year over year. Our retail consultant says we are one of the few clients he has that is on target. The rest of his customers (small retailers) are down year over year. We've bought less inventory this year in anticipation of a down turn.

I run a large national construction services organization selling products and services in Critical Facilities markets. We will do $40m less in revenue this fiscal year vs last year. The run during Covid is over. Customers have pulled way back across almost all segments from Broadband, Telecom, Industrial and Data.

Oct. will be interesting because I read that mid Oct. is when most companies start their 'Shop early for Christmas and Save' marketing.
Some smaller businesses cannot survive if seasonal sales go in the tank.

After Trump gets elected the MSM will have no issue reporting this.AKA people were "spooked" by the prospect of a Trump presidency. I fully expect for the PTB to drop the shoe and let there be a "hard landing" right as Trump assumes office.

Bidenomics works "chackle, chackle, chackle."

What a joke, just like everything else in Traitor Joe's regime.

Election year. Happens every four years like clockwork. I’ve been in industrial sales and management for over 20 years. It makes no difference who is running, or who wins the election. Sales always drop before presidential elections and rebound after.

This is anecdotal but I've noticed that Walmart has a ton of clearance items now and I'm assuming it's due to the lack of sales.

It could be, definitely.
Check to see how many of them have been opened. They could be returned items that the manufacturers won't take back. More and more people are doing the whole use once, return it scam.
