“I always thought climate change was a bunch of nonsense, but now I really do think it is happening,” said White, a 65-year-old Trump supporter, as she and her young grandson watched workers haul away downed trees and other debris lining the streets of her posh seaside neighborhood last week, just as Hurricane Michael made landfall 700 miles away in the Florida Panhandle. Storms have grown more frequent — and more intense — over the 26 years she and her husband have lived in Wilmington, White said, each one chipping away at their skepticism. Climate change has even seeped into their morning conversations as they sip coffee — ever since the neighbor’s tree came crashing onto their home and property, coming to rest along nearly the entire length of their driveway.

“I’m not a scientist. I just know what I see,” said Carl Marshburn, a Republican who has operated tour boats along the Cape Fear River for three decades. He said he’s had to start coating the bottom of his river boats with antifouling paint to prevent barnacles and other marine organisms from growing amid saltwater intrusion.

No longer is the topic taboo among many conservative business owners, homeowners and voters here in New Hanover County, a swing county in a swing state, both of which Trump won by just four points in 2016.

People who believe in climate change are dumb. You believe that there’s a bubble around the earth that holds the air in? Satellites would’ve popped it

The conservative messaging on this has been wrong from the beginning. Too many people were told “it’s a hoax” when it should’ve always been “we have nothing to do with it”.

The oceans have been rising for 10,000 years. Nothing anyone can do to stop it....

Well, that's just not true at all. It's actually been the exact opposite for the last 15 years.

The EPA (grudgingly) says they haven't.

That's got nothing to do with climate change, that's everything to do with groundwater draw.

I'm on board the climate train guys. Since 2016 I have been raking up more leaves than ever before. This month alone has been the heaviest of the year. What else could it be?

There hasn't been a major hurricane (Cat 3 or above) make direct landfall in NC since 1996. And between 1961 - 2018 (57 years) there have only been three major hurricanes make direct landfall in NC (Hugo hit SC as a 4, but dissipated into a 1 over NC)

And since were using these bozo's logic, I'd say climate change doesn't exist based upon the fact that Louisiana has only had two hurricanes hit here in the 13 years since 2005

Exactly and why the Dems solution for it is always "give us more of your money".

Oklahoma just had the mildest and wettest summer I can remember since about 88 or 89.

Still got hot as hell but nothing like 5 years ago. And nobody I know denies climate change. That's another myth about conservatives that leftists push. The climate has been changing since the beginning of time. In the big picture, not long ago the earth was home to dinosaurs, incredibly high volumes of greenhouse gases and common plants the size of palm trees. And more recently, 12,000 years ago, most of the USA was permafrost and covered in glaciers.

And now another warm age is upon us, though it's affecting different biomes differently. And of course, man could be responsible for a very miniscule amount of that change. Earth herself does a pretty good job of putting plenty of those gases in the air too. A single volcano this year released as much gas in a short time as all of mankind did all year.

Localized anecdotes are the worst arguments both for and against climate change.
OMG it's hot in Chicago it must be global warming!
OMG it snowed in Houston there can't be global warming!
