We went to the Landing around Christmas after going to the Christmas Lights at Shaw Gardens (which they do not have the temerity to label as Christmas lights). We could’ve mistaken the Landing for Beirut.

We were there for Dead and Co. and our 27th anniversary. Old deadhead (obviously no hippy/lib) and we usually walk to BOB and hit Washington St. but the homeless and prostitution by the hotel made us just drive. Didn't mind sitting at the pool on Tuesday. But still. So many of those buildings could be full of sweet lofts. So sad for a great city. FS even put a security gate since last year. Maybe the casino...don't know but my mom grew up there and you can't even go to her neighborhood. Sad because our dates there have always been so much fun.

It is sad. One of my daughter’s friend’s dad lost his proverbial shirt - Washington St. with lofts and commercial property during Covid.
Lots of no-go neighborhoods. I was doing a community association presentation for a friend a few blocks north of the Arch and the po-lice pulled up next to us and asked if we knew where we were going.

In 1978 I was with a friend of my moms kid. Dad was the only Budwiser distributor in the area. Pretty rich...seriously. Anyway we thought it would be fun to take a bus ride. Thought it would make a loop...nope. Bus driver was like " this is the end of the line. Do you know where you are? Well what ever you do, don't move from this spot until the next bus comes." Dumb kids but we did make it back but it did scare the shite out of us.
