IDK man, nobody has really tried to 1) list the places or 2) say the actual reason military bases have these policies in place (and probably have for some time, although someone tried to blame Biden
).
I’m not saying bases should be gun free zones or that “good guys with guns everywhere” are the solution. Gun violence/mental health is a complicated problem in this country w no clear & obvious fix.

Early reports on X (to be taken with a huge grain of salt) are five dead.
So it's not a mass casualty event then? Not that 5 dead isn't a sad and horrible situation but the media's use of that term to stir up emotions is really sickening.
4 people can get killed by a crazy person in Tennessee and its just 4 dead. Let 5 get shot and die at a Military Base where emotions can be stirred and the headlines scream MASS CASUALTY.

fascinating conversation on who can and cannot have a gun on base.
Anyone with details on the mass shooting?

Yes we have. It's the same reason you keep ignoring the same answers.
This is from 2016
quote:
The Pentagon recently released detailed guidance that allows U.S. military personnel to carry privately owned, concealed firearms on base, a move that the Army's service chief argued against publicly.
"Arming and the Use of Force," a Nov. 18 Defense Department directive approved by Deputy Secretary of Defense Robert Work, lays out the policy and standards that allow DoD personnel to carry firearms and employ deadly force while performing official duties.
Oh look, political hacks getting in the way...
quote:
Lawmakers have questioned military leaders about the policy, arguing that allowing service members to be armed might have prevented attacks such as the July 16, 2015, shootings at two military facilities in Chattanooga, Tennessee, in which four Marines and a sailor were shot and killed. The gunman, Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez, was killed by police in a gunfight.
But Army Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Milley has argued against reversing the DoD policy that prohibits service members from carrying concealed weapons on post.
Testifying at an April 14 congressional hearing, Milley cited the Nov. 5, 2009, mass shooting at Fort Hood, Texas, in which 13 people were killed and 42 others were injured. The day of the shooting, Nidal Hasan, then an Army major and psychiatrist, entered the Fort Hood deployment center carrying two pistols, jumped on a desk and shouted "Allahu Akbar!" -- Arabic for "God is great" -- then opened fire.
And Milley's asinine take
quote:
Milley defended the short time it took for law enforcement to secure the scene and said he is not convinced that allowing soldiers to carry privately owned weapons would have stopped Hasan.

Low IQ TDS moron that has to be the center of attention with stupid questions, then triples down when it doesn't get the answers it wants.
I wish people on this board would ignore these idiots.

Awe. Poor little feller. No one bit on your stupid gotcha attempts?
You’ll be ok.

You seriously think everyone is waking around on base with an M-4 and a Glock?

I’m on Barksdale AFB all the time seeing customers. Other than the personnel at the gates, you rarely see firearms anywhere else on base. Now I’m sure they can mobilize an armed response fairly quickly but no one is walking around strapped.

Just "one in custody"... longer it plays out, well you know the "rule"...

According to the Daily Mail, it HAS been confirmed that the shooter IS an active-duty male soldier.
Yes, not huge surprise, but a little piece of the puzzle.
'The shooter's identity has not been released, but a law enforcement official confirmed to CNN that the gunman was a soldier.'

Why are those policies in place?
Well, if they are in place to prevent shootings, this would be the dumbest time possible to bring them up, now wouldn't it?
By contrast, Israeli citizens in the reserve or active army routinely carry their weapons with them wherever they go. Yes, including in public when they are off duty.
And those weapons are (gasp) military assault rifles.
And they have armed guards at at schools. And they'e had fewer than 10 school shootings since 1974, and mass shootings are very rare, and if you were to remove the "Palestinian" terrorists from that equation the number of mass shootings approaches zero.
So what is your point?

Why do these strict policies exist on bases?
AI says, "This policy is in place primarily for safety and security reasons, aiming to minimize the risk of accidental or unauthorized use of weapons on base."
I would imagine theft is another motivation.
Now.
So what?
