Watched a great documentary on the forts along the Nile north of the two kingdoms. The last befuddled historians for ages. Looking at the size of the obvious soldiers quarters they could estimate the number. But the granary was large enough to feed 10 of them for years, why such a large supply.

Then a Eureka moment. These forts were not to protect the kingdom, these forts were to protect the gold, traded for with grain, from the Nubians.
