I went down the Wisner Trust rabbit hole back when the heirs challenged the expiration of the Trust in 2014 anns having been following it ever since.

Watching all this drama unfold has been SO on-brand for New Orleans. It reminds me of a modern-day Louisiana Purchase with the secret deals.

The City is so so so broke right now and could really use this money. Summer Camps have had to shut down mid-summer and lifeguards at public pools haven’t been paid because there’s no money.

She’s not really popular.

The recall effort against her was organized by black democrats, but it failed in large part because blacks, while not thrilled with her, had little stomach to recall a sister.

Cantrell’s side was also successful in branding the recall effort a white Republican-backed attack on a duly elected black female mayor. So obviously it was rooted in racism and sexism, etc etc etc.

That netted Cantrell support from the 4cubbies-esque population of the city.

I had no idea. That is disgusting and sad.

Human greed unfortunately seems to win every time.

As an outside observer, I find her and NO politics to be fascinating.

Yeah, but let’s be honest. Giving the city a big pile of cash that you know is going to wasted isn’t ideal either.

My husband and I signed the recall.

It’s fascinating as a local, too.

100% but there’s at least a chance some of it would be used appropriately.

Agreed. But that is irrelevant in this instance. The will stipulated where it was to go....greedy 3rd generation family members and institutions decided that they knew better than the guy who generated the wealth.

Basically said, "frick you, you're dead" and went after the money.

Of course, Cantrell declined to comment.

New Orleans deserves no money.

It is a failed city with failures of politicians.

Not a cent will be spent appropriately because the NO citizens keep electing people who couldn’t run a hotdog stand.

She’s not popular, yet she would still win another term if she could run again.

When was the last time MSY had a competent, non corrupt leader? Patronage is the name of the game, and always will be. Ray Nagin will be remembered with glee by the majority of voters, even.

Mitch Landrieu was mostly competent, albeit pandering.

He was competent for Mitch. Not for the city. And as corrupt as any.
