I'm not sure they understand their existing customer base very well.

Went to a gun show while in high school, sophomore or junior year. When leaving, the red man booth gave my friends and me boxes of red man stickers. My high school was plastered with those sticker for years. I’m still pretty proud of some of the spots we managed to get those stickers.

If that! Hard to imagine there are many dweeby Silicon Valley guys who live in a $3 million dollar bay area apartment who just so happen to ALSO chew tobacco. Or such guys who were thinking about chewing tobacco, but holding out until Red Man changed their name.
Who is running that operation?
"Hey guys. Sales are struggling a bit. What can we do to fix it?"
"I have a good idea. Let's unnecessarily change the name of our product that has built up decades of goodwill and name recognition in order to appease people who have not nor ever will be our customers. I'm sure our existing customers will happily agree with the change."
It appears they just want to destroy the demand for their product without expressly stating that is their goal.
