It is simple. Young people are fricking idiots. I thought I was the shite when I came to voting age, but realized I knew shite at that time as I got older.

Communism does not focus on the current generation. They infiltrate entertainment industry, govt, and ....the education system. Brainwash those kids right, then make the higher learning institutions FREEE so they can get the really intense brainwashing to serve the GOVT ADMIN state.

I've had a lot of conversations with young liberals over the last 20 years. Even if they are fairly intelligent they have zero knowledge of economics.

This is how I would summarize their belief:

"Govt has a lot of money. It's located in big vaults in Wash, DC. Govt leaders like the President and Congress decide who to dole the money out to. Democrats give more of it to the poor. Republicans just send money to people that are already rich."

Me: 'Where does govt get these big piles of money?'

Them: 'I'm not really sure. I guess they print it.'

When these young people hear lines like: 'Trump is giving tax breaks to the rich' they don't think of the companies donations to govt being reduced. They think of the rich CEO of a corporation who makes a lot of money and then on top of that the president just sends him a big check for millions of dollars because the president likes rich people.

So, been a politician longer than a lot of his supporters have been alive, but viewed as an outside. Makes sense

Yes. Something that makes it abundantly clear that Bernie Bros are complete and total retards.

The man has been in both chambers at the highest level of federal government for 29 years

He is an outsider and the Earth is a pyramid

Consider that most of not all of them have no recollection of the 20th Century or the various struggles against communism. The USSR was dissolved before anyone younger than 27/28 was even born, much less politically cognizant.

Please don’t take this as an endorsement of socialism, but there really are some big hurdles that younger folks are being faced with, and a lot of it is due to older generations.

For one: they were told that a college degree is essential to having a career and pursuing the American dream. Then we made it super expensive to support a bunch of useless academic/support positions, but no biggy, just take out loans! Yes, young people are dumb for taking out loans for useless degrees. News flash: young people have always been dumb. That’s why parents are supposed to give them good guidance and explain financial ramifications and the value of various degrees.

Second, and this obviously isn’t as big an issue in non-urban/metro areas, but the boomers and gen X’era have essentially bought all the available real estate and they aren’t giving it up for obvious reasons. But here’s the thing: they also are controlling the market through city councils and ridiculous zoning regulations, NIMBY advocacy, and over regulation. It’s a monopoly essentially. “No, I won’t sell you a house, and also no, you can’t build one either. But you’re welcome to keep renting from me in perpetuity.”

Third: boomers aren’t retiring because they did a shitty job planning for it, unless they were able to hold on to a company-provided pension (which they’ve managed to eliminate for millennials in order to stay solvent.) So they just stick around at their corporate jobs, blocking others from climbing the ladder. To make matters worse, boomer politicians have totally screwed the social security system, so now millennials won’t even have that little bit to look forward to.

I’m sure there are plenty of snarky replies about moving to North Dakota and getting a job as a plumber or whatever, and there is definitely some truth to that, but it’s certainly not that easy. Most people would prefer not to leave their homes and family’s if possible. Many people have different interests or aspirations than the trades.

I think we need to do a better job teaching them the real reasons for these problems they’re facing and also how we can fix them. Yes, they’re dumb and ill-informed, but they’re also getting left out of the American dream. I liked how Steve Bannon describes it to Bill Maher: “They’re basically like the Russian serfs, they own nothing and owe large amounts of money that they’ll never be able to pay off.”

They don't want to pay their student loans back and guaranteed jobs and free healthcare sounds nice when you are 23. They just don't realize yet they are going to be the ones ultimately paying for all of this "free" stuff

Exactly the response I expected

And honestly, this kind of attitude is probably a contributor to the popularity of people like Bernie and Trump. Instead of just saying “you’re an idiot” they listen.

Eh. This is such an oversimplification. Plenty of people are succeeding. The ones who aren’t largely never would.

I would in turn suggest that your reply is also a big oversimplification

There’s enough info out there for a young adult to not be dumb enough to fall for it.

Not enough jobs?

A dream is relative. A big issue with people is they act like the American dream is some hard lined criteria. Once again, if someone is stupid enough to blindly take loans despite all the information out there, tough shite.

Well obviously, but ya know, not enough info in the world to overcome bad advice.

Plenty of entry level jobs, but not nearly as much upward mobility opportunities as in the past.
