The whole allure of most federal jobs was that it was stable and highly specialized. The downside was the pay was lower than market.

Its do or die right now. I didn't think we'd ever reign in the deficit and honestly I still don't. We aren't close to that target and people are already flopping around like a fish out of water. They really don't care about the debt or deficit.
Best one can do is prepare for the day no one wants to buy treasuries.
