Adam, who is best friends with Kimmel, very carefully laid out the situation that Kimmel isn’t the darling of the left that he has become.
Basically, Carolla said that Jimmy wasn’t faking his health care and gun control rants but isn’t some hardcore leftist.
He basically insinuated that Jimmy otherwise has to play the game because as a late night host his show is dependent on celebrity guests so he plays the game.

Kimmel was never a leftist before. I think he is passionate about a few issues and is being labeled as a Leftist by those who don't like his opinions.
I don't agree with him on everything, but I don't care if the man has an opinion. Everyone else does. Who cares?

Carolla has been "right leaning" for a very long time. He hates government intervention and views most social problems as issues of individual responsibility. Aside from abortion and gay rights, I can't think of any issues where he's on the left.
