I like him. I think he's among the best options. I think he's fairly disconnected from his brother. I think his wife is Hispanic and his children are bi-lingual, and his Spanish is excellent. He can win 45% or more of the Hispanic vote. He had a fair showing among Florida's black voters as gov (and was pretty popular across the board). He Will win Florida. His record on divisive social issues is more obscure than was his older brother's (gays, wimmenz, etc).

No, he wont

I guarantee you he wouldn't reach that

neither was Reagan.

But he made aids to kill gays, so there's that

Everyone back in the late 70s said "Reagan can't win, he is too extreme"

People I guess don't know their history.

If "winning" means tacking to the left, and being democrat lite, I am perfectly OK with losing.

I watch msnbc every morning, and the establishment republicans and demslobe them some Jeb.
They want him as the nominee. If you were a Democrat, you would want someone with the Bush anchor tied around his neck as your opponent.

It's not a conspiracy or something.

It's the simplest of mind games. I use it on peds patients to get them to do what I want.

Reverse psychology.

The fact that Republicans fall for it is both funny and sad.

They know it....they want you to forget that you know it.

Because then you have to figure it out all over again. Reagan was HATED by his own party. He was not the establishment choice. He was not supported by the establishment...and they tried to kill him.

This.

A recent poll found Rand Paul to be leading Hillary by like 9 points in Colorado.

They are all over the place right now. Long way to go and a lot can happen between now and 2016.

And it's not surprising that Jeb leads in Florida for the GOP nomination. It's his home state and he was a decent governor there. Nationwide he would get creamed in a general election due to his last name.

Plus a Bush v Clinton matchup = There is no right choice.

Reagan in 1976, as a newly out-of-office governor of the most important state in the Union at the time (still a swing back then), mounted a legitimate motherfricking challenge to a sitting president from his own party. He wasn't that goddamned unpopular.

ETA: I know my history...and I like it.

NO ONE GIVES A SHYT, IT'S THREE YEARS OUT.

Too much crap going on in the world to be worring about a race 3 years down the road by people who might be dead in 3 years.

If Gary Johnson doesn't run I guess I'll have to write myself in.

If I have the fancy to actually vote, I will typically write 'Grover Cleveland', 'Lysander Spooner', or 'Murray Rothbard'.

Right, I'll actually believe Jeb has a shot when he's leading or tied in polls from may 2016 to November 2016.

There's no way he's getting around his name. I'm not voting for him anyway. I'm tired of being told I need to vote for big gov't republicans.

Especially among the GOP base and libertarians alike, we all know how independents and liberals will vote but once you lose those two, it's over.

And the liberal who started this thread is still propping him up.

That went for Obama.

A guy like Rand could swing some states that usually aren't in play for the GOP. I see Oregon, Co, Washington, Wisconsin, Iowa, New Hampshire as states he would be popular in, plus the typical red states. He may not would even need Florida.

2016 could be one of those elections where the electoral college drastically changes due to both parties sucking arse as of recent.

If Ron Paul's stench doesn't sink Rand in the primary, he'll have a hell of time cleaning it off in the general.

Hilary is going to win in 2016 and it can't be stopped... the only shot the GOP has of even having a fighting chance is nominating someone who is a clear contrast to Hilary that really gets people excited, not an alternative or Democrat-Lite candidate.

Save yourself a lot of typing and just copy/paste one of the thousand posts identical to yours from 2008! As late as Feb 2008, Obama was still polling single digits, Hillary was the chosen one, many said there was no point in wasting tax money having an election, yet here we are again.

But you think Jeb BUSH could win? Talk about stench on a name.

At least Ron is widely popular with true conservatives. Rand has enough broad appeal to satisfy the more establishment side of R voters. He is a lot different than his father.

If Jeb could win the GOP primary, he could probably win the general. 2016 stands to be good for the GOP after 8 years of Obama. He's a little too liberal for the conservative base, but he's the Bush with the chops to actually be an effective President.

I doubt he's conservative enough for the primaries and the conservatives don't want to risk running another Bush who they think will be weak because of his last name. It's mostly the too liberal thing though.

Not even comparable. GWB was a bad president. He's not personally unpopular among conservatives.

Who make up precisely what % of the GOP (hint: look at his numbers in the primaries).
