Are you under the impression that the Putin regime values small government and individual rights?
Good lord this is a perfect example of getting hung up on “left-right” and failing to see the horseshoe where both extremes lead to authoritarianism.

I think the left blaming him for everything under the sun reflexively made people like him. If left hates him he must be good!
But I agree with you. He's a classic oligarch at heart with Soviet restoration among his obvious goals. But we have to work with him, in the parameters we've been dealt. A less leftist, less corrupt option like Gorbachev would be preferable but that ain't happening. Putin has basically set himself up for a lifetime appointment.

That already happened several years ago, when he was "Prime Minister," aka on hiatus from the presidency of Russia due to term limits. Laws were passed with the express intent of making him president for life one he re-took the reins from Medvedev.
Putin is no friend to anyone except Putin, regardless of how much Americans may or may not have in common with everyday Russians.

Largest domestic threat to the country is our government.
Largest global threat is China and it is not even close.
Russias main concern, far and away, is their immediate regional security.
China is actively purging whole groups of people and has been taking over Africa for a decade now. China is a modern day Nazi Germany but worse because they took notes on the German failures and learned from them.

I wish we had leaders here who did the same, but instead our taxes go towards being the world’s charity while running up massive debt ourselves, subsidizing shithole countries who don’t always act in our interests, leave our border wide open, and pay for Europe’s defense so those countries can use money saved on defense to fund their socialized healthcare
His allegiance is to Russia alone.

The only reason Putin doesn’t try to steal a few of your chips at the poker table is that he’s gaining your trust so he can shoot you in the parking lot and take it all.

There isn't anything to steal, as the house (our government) always wins. They rob us blind before Putin ever gets a chance.

I would like leaders like that. Where their allegiance is to the United States. Not the one world society.

Just because our govt is so completely ate up with demoralization and CCP failures, does not mean Russia is our friend.
I don't know what is more sickening, thinking Putin is a good guy or thinking Russia GAF.
They want the spread of marxism it is mind numbingly plain dumb to glorify Putin just because we have a POS weak President. This is an ignorant thread.

Are we really interested in a third Euro-baser world conflict?
Ooft.
But I agree, they would steamrole Europe.
Not sure the US has the 20th century nut sack to beat back another conflict on European soil.

Sad sack of Americans we have here. If we’re ever drawn into a war with Russia, may the Sedition And Espionage Act be fully implemented to clean up the filthy mold that has come upon this board.

Nah chief this ain’t it. This is one problem I have with many conservatives, is the love affair for Putin and Russia. I think this mess in Ukraine is mostly the fault of the west, and Russia simply doesn’t want NATO on their borders, and I can’t blame them, but to say he’d be a good ally is just ridiculous. The dude is a tyrant, and would love to make the US his bitch, no matter if it’s ran by liberals or republicans.
I really wonder if both liberals and conservatives in this country are becoming radical, and it’s either going to be fascism or communism that we’ll have to decide between, which will end up being the fall of the US. I hope I’m wrong, but the more I see conservatives sucking Putin’s duck, makes me kind of worried. We shouldn’t want to be anything like him, except for the part where he’s Russia first. We need someone who is US first but that’s it. Don’t need a tyrant who murders and throws his opposition in jail.
Now, to say he’d be a good ally for the west against China, I’d agree with, but Russia will be on China’s side, until China does the same thing Nazi Germany did to the Soviets.

The most confusing part is seeing quotes like "Putin should roll through Europe and stop the socialists."
Because look, he's actively trying to rebuild the Soviet Bloc. He's a KGB guy and grew into his role as far more of a Marxist than the Russian Presidents who preceded him.
Joe Biden is the worst president we've ever had by a large margin, but I'm not going to cheer on Putin because some people have built up this weird Putin hates Biden narrative.
As has been mentioned, Putin is indifferent to the US presidents. He believes he can rebuild the corrupt USSR back up to the benefit of himself and other oligarchs. Full stop. Russians have never been a bountiful people, but Marxism introduced a beautiful mechanism for control and corruption. The cold war never really ended in this regard - the same people are in charge now as were in 1990.
