Correct. I should have been more specific. Whatever newfangled bullet train discussed in the OP, once built, will immediately be made obsolete by driverless cars.

There are certain places where they make sense. Like Houston to Dallas or Vegas to Phoenix.

Yet another reason as a progressive conservative that I voted for DJT he plays conservatives like a fiddle but is willing to do what he thinks will work. Bullet trains will definitely help move our country into greatness

I wouldn’t mind taking a bullet train from bham to atl.

Hell, I'd probably take it over just for dinner at least once a week.

Exactly this. There are regional routes where it makes sense. Can't just put them everywhere .. not just yet.

I would love one that goes from El Paso up to Alburquerque to Colorado Front Range (COS, Denver, Fort Collins up to damn North Dakota and beyond).

Nope. Even the shittiest one seater cars they come up with down the road will be more expensive to run and maintain than any kind of mass transit you can imagine.

That’s because it’s with every penny. Faster, more convenient, and for the driver more economically efficient.

A CitationX is damn “expensive”. But if your time is valuable enough— it pays for itself.

If your time is truly really valuable, you're not *driving* a car anywhere yourself.

The driverless car model won’t require you to buy one. You just summon it and use it to get to you location. Any location. Not just locations connected by railroad.
And what will a line of driverless cars all going to atl from bhm be if not, in effect, a giant train.

Driverless cars will put many industries out of business, the least of which will be passenger trains.

So here is the perfect example

Florida is a great state for a bullet train and they just started one from Orlando down to Miami with stops in West Palm. Thought it would be great to take the train to West Palm for a weekend. To go on the first class part would cost almost $700 round-trip.

To go on the regular Park would be over $400 round-trip. It takes approximately two hours on the train and a little over 2 1/2 hours by car. Four people could ride in a car for the price of gas round-trip, maybe a tank or pay $1400 to ride on the train

The economic simply do not work currently. Now, On the opposite side a lawyer from Miami takes the train to Orlando for work and bills the company and works on the train.

Bullet trains are great where there is enough demand.
