Make it high speed and efficient and people would bypass the airports every chance they could.
And privatizing it won’t get Amtrak anywhere near that.

The only place that train travel actually works in the US is the northeast because of population density. Which is why DC has such a hard on for Amtrak.

When has privatization ever decreased costs?
Ever heard of NASA and Space X?

Close to never, private companies have to make profits so their price to customers naturally has to be higher.
So why have capitalism at all?

Because why would they change it when they are making money stealing

Or you could... idk... answer the question?
Give me an example of something that was managed/run by the federal government and was later turned over to the private sector that ended up costing taxpayers more money........I can't think of any. The only thing that comes to mind is some private companies like SpaceX and Blue Origin somewhat competing against NASA and doing business in a much more efficient manner.

I’m ok with the idea of privatizing it so somebody can figure out how to make it a worthwhile alternative.
Privatize it, but do so in such a way that the government will never again be directly involved in funding it. No subsidies, no funding offsets, and no tax breaks. Roll the savings into revitalizing our crumbling infrastructure.
The problem with a government-funded commuter rail system in this country is that debating it before we ever even try to revitalize our existing infrastructure is a non-starter for me. It would be a huge initial expense in land, resources, and labor and will very likely lose money after it is up and going. Meanwhile, all the rest of our shite is falling down around our ears.

I would love to see a costs breakdown for Amtrak. I think it has a lot of potential if they priced it right. Options are basically super cheap and sit with the homeless or more expensive than flying.

What is the purpose of privatization? How would that benefit our government or the American people?
Less government spending helps allow lower taxes.
That was easy.

would imagine Bezos would be one of the bidders for the Post Office.
Lol no. Bezos is subsidized by the post office. They deliver Amazon shite for a bargain in rural areas where no one else goes.

The postal service should be stamped mail only. That is a service that is needed and can't be done by a private company.
Trying to compete with ups and FedEx has run them into the ground.

Last thing Bezos wants is a privatized post office. He'd lose his durt cheap errand boy for his Chinese junk in rural areas.

USPS should get out of that business and the 75 year pension requirement should be repealed. Parcel should be left to the private sector. Letter mail delivery to the public.

But that’s exactly how markets work. The consumer is king.
Except for the massive subsidies that support automobile-based transportation in this country.

Why have private companies like FedEx and UPS completely destroyed the mail and package delivery market for USPS?
You could... idk... answer THAT question.

Elon needs to read a history book on why Amtrak exists in the first place.
For those here that do not know, Amtrak was formed in 1971 to take over passenger service from the common carrier railroads as they were losing millions of dollars providing the service, impacting their ability to service their debt, which jeopardized their freight service which was marginally profitable.
In this era there was no cheap airfare and rail passenger service was still uncompetitive. In today's market Amtrak is essentially hauling vacationers outside the Northeast Corridor as they are not time nor cost competitive.
As a side note; The Staggers Act of 1980 deregulated the railroads after a couple decades of bankruptcies caused by being forced, by the government, to provide unprofitable services.

Post Office SUCKS!!!!

The post office gives lower rates to Amazon than UPS/FedEx while having higher costs.
Make that math work.
