Releasing 172 Million barrels over the next 120 days, according to the Department of Energy press release. Our level is currently around 415 Million barrels, so that would put us under 300 Million barrels.
Looking at the EIA SPR monthly ending numbers, we haven’t ended a month lower than 300 million barrels since December 1982. That’s during a period where it looks like we were constantly increasing almost every month until we hit an all-time high of 726.616 Million barrels in December 2009.

They're also refining 200MM barrels in Houston right?

So if Trump does this under the guise of "relief from the effects of the Iran war" is that good or bad?
Opening the SPR during a time of war or conflict is EXACTLY the reason we have the SPR. Opening it because your failed policies and anti-energy policy has caused energy prices to soar for 3 1/2 years, right before an election, is not the purpose of the Strategic Petrolium Reserve.
Do you understand the difference or just riddled with TDS?

The SPR receives barrels monthly as payment in kind for offshore royalties.
300 million barrels still put it above what it was legally designed to do. The US just doesn't import very much Middle Eastern crude anylonger.

His first release was in Nov 2021 and then massively more in mid-2022 after Ukraine (and headed into a mid-term).

Screw touching the SPR. We still haven't refilled it from when the Potato emptied it to get gas below $5/gallon.
I would rather pay another dollar a gallon for a finite time than to deplete the SPR again at this time of critical national security. I find this move to be counterintuitive.
We cannot move in a positive direction when we keep dragging anchors. Cut the line and let it play out.
