Was at a conference a few years ago where three CEO's of three major drug companies were seated on stage and the audience was allowed to ask questions. Someone asked why drug prices were so high as compared to other countries. The Leo pharmaceutical CEO said basically they could charge whatever they wanted in the USA and the price would be paid!

When a American company sell my grandmother drug x for 50 bucks but sells in to the German grandma for 30 most Americans will ponder that one.

Don't hand me that BS.

Inflated prices for essential medicines, is the moral equivalent of price gouging after a hurricane.

It's probably due to an FDA controlled market and lack of competition through regulation and not having a strong consumer advocate on your side. If we are going to live in the world of high regulations then we need a strong consumer advocate. If regulations did not exist then the free market could determine price more fairly.

Guess I was wrong. Sorry about that.
Accepted.

I am hardly an AnCap, but I am pretty darned libertarian-right. My views on personal liberty, however, lead a lot of totalitarians/authoritarians on the Right (especially SoCons) to conclude that I am a Lefty. Hardly.

The much bigger issue here are the price controls in other countries. It's not a level playing field (Trump's been banging this drum since he announced).

If a pharmaceutical company wants to charge x for any drug, that's fine with me as long as they are charging x to everyone. Other countries are again piggybacking on the U.S.

It’s to bad that congress is in the pharmaceutical companies pockets or we could all get cheaper price . We had a chiropractor that hated Trump , admitted to my wife that she liked his views on pharmaceutical companies and being pro choice on vacancies.

Trump is an idiot. Drug prices are the result of the government interference and regulation of the health markets in the US. He should be working more to eliminate these burdens at the federal level and pressure states to do the same.

Trump has slashed and burned burdensome regulations across all spectrums at a record pace. If those still exist to cripple Big Pharma's pricing, that's not on Trump.

So what's he actually doing about it?

A tweet isn't worth the electricity required to transmit it if the administration isn't actually doing anything about it.

Lay people have no idea about real effects of drug shortages that often occur secondary to corporate greed.

I work in hospital Pham business for over 20 years. Over last decade we have been short on heparin, morphine, fentanyl, various antibiotics, narcan, even sodium damn bicarbonate. Try explaining that to physicians and patients. Good luck.

One of the primary problems, as I see it, with pharmaceutical prices are the same as healthcare prices - consumers typically rely on middlemen (ie insurance companies) to negotiate and pay the bulk of cost between the good or service providers. If there was less of an indirect relationship between consumer and producers, costs would be more appropriate.

If there is something wrong, or not conservative about this, I guess I'll have to add to my list on the other thread. Can you explain to me how this isn't conservative? I mean I get the government control of private business aspect, but isn't it a counter action to the very same government control in Europe, which results in Americans paying more to make a drug profitable?
