I'm not sure why your downvotes/upvotes are 50/50 on this statement. It's been roughly 20 years that I've been closely following politics, and this is accurate. Since right around the time Saddam Hussein was removed from power, Iran has been "just a few [weeks/months] away from attaining a nuke".
Maybe it has been true at some point, but this "cried wolf" crap became stale long ago.

Right and wrong. They had enough U235 to make about 10 or 11 weapons
BUT
It was nowhere near enriched enough and all enrichment sites were destroyed in 2025.
They were years away and all independant experts admit to that.
Of course, it isn't like our government has ever, and I mean never, lied to the public prior to military actions.
It is always the same hawks who fall for it. Someday, they will wake up and realize they lived in fear their entire lives.

The Arms Control Association concluded that Iran reached a "threshold" state with enough enriched uranium for fuel, but mastering the remaining technologies for an implosion-style device would take significantly longer.
Also, in 2025, a DIA report concluded that Iran didn't have ballistic missiles capable of hitting the U.S. and might not achieve such a capability until 2035 or later.

I can find three public statements to that effect, in 2021 and 2022.
I'm convinced based on my failed efforts to find anything else that this "20 years" claim is nonsense, but I'm willing to stand corrected.

Remember Trump said in July 2024 Iran's nuclear program was obliterated. Then, this operation was about "regeime change". Then he didn't care if the Strait of Hormuz was opened. Now he's threatening to end their civilzation if they don't open it. It' silly.

No. We devastated their ability to enrich more uranium - not their entire program. They have 400 plus pounds of already enriched uranium, to put it in perspective that’s almost as much as your mom weighs.
They have now exhibited the ability to launch ballistic missiles with range to hit Europe. They had a lot of the steps completed and posed a high risk. One that every president since Carter mentioned but only one did something about.
