I am a PM in a lvl 20 office in south LA. Letter mail volume is way down BUT package volume is way above normal IE a city route that has a package base of 30 packages is seeing over a 100 now. And I get all the frustration with the processing plants especially BR and NOLA they are the absolute worst. The USPS is a service we are not supposed to make a profit but with that said we definitely need to trim a lot of fat. My opinion is the unions are some of the biggest waste. PO is paying out 10s of millions of dollars on grievances pay outs. Some are legit violations of the contracts but over 90% are stupid arse pay outs that some idiotic member of management signed off on along time ago. For example every city carrier in a NOLA station gets 200 dollars if a member of management isn’t their too take their keys in at the end of the day. So this is what they do a, carrier goes into the supervisors office and talks to a supervisor while a carrier who is waiting to go into the door runs and puts there keys up, and boom 200 dollars for everyone they try to do this as much as possible.

I like my mail carrier. Always friendly. Even she complains about the sorting and logistics of the department.
My mail carrier is great. Our work mail carrier(s) are the epitome of Theo Von’s Mail quote.

I thought DeJoy was appointed to frick up USPS. Seems like mission accomplished.

My mail lady, a 50+ year black lady, 20+ years of service, has said that the union runs the local offices, the manager actually has no real power. She got hurt on the job, received workers comp, & though still being treated, wanted to return to work as she felt fine. The union rep rode her hard for returning to work "too soon". She also told me that each deliverer, once a month, is followed around by a supervisor in her own car, tracking the time it takes to deliver her mail, from her truck to a mail box Imagine those numbers / costs. Every office of a set size had security cameras, at a cost of $100K, installed...in the employee parking lots. To prevent theft. .

Nothing weird about that camera, that lens knows exactly what it wants to focus on & I don’t blame the camera one bit ????

I would like to see the demographics breakdown of those unnecessary new hires.

SIR…. You’re down 80% and you just hired 190,000 new employees. What part of that is perplexing?
Seriously.

And my mail lady comes whenever she pleases, and sometimes she does not show up.
They caught her stealing packages.
What does she look like? Don't answer that... I already know.

Drop in demand hired more people and service is still worthless
Less than worthless in my area. I used to get mail if not every day, at least 5 days a week. For the last year or more I may get mail 2-3 times a week and it's usually 5-7 pieces each time.
The middle of January I got my Sewerage & Water Board bill on the 14th with a due date of the 17th where it usually comes 2 weeks in advance of the due date.
Yeah, they suck overall. If every company ran as inefficiently as the USPS, this country would quickly be upside down.

Only deliver M/W/F in populated areas, T/T in rural.
I think the better solution would be similar to the sanitation routes in populated areas. Have each postal worker service 3 territories. Territory 1 gets mail on M/Th, #2 gets Tu/F, #3 gets W/S.
Rural areas can then be divided into 5 territories getting delivery 1 day a week between M-F.

This is the problem across our country...people are not informed before they make a statement like the one quoted above. All it takes is a little research and you'll find that the postal service does get taxpayer funding. The latest contribution of our money to the Postal Service came under Creepy Joe Biden's disasterous 4 years in office.
First, on April 9, President Joe Biden’s administration threw its support behind funneling more tax dollars to fund the agency’s new next generation mail delivery fleet.
Second, the Postal Service acknowledged on April 2 that it has accepted $8.64 billion of taxpayer funds to offset some of its losses during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Both steps seem to reflect the reality that the USPS cannot make it on its own without taxpayer support.
I don't know if you're a Democrat or not, but in my book an informed voter is the best kind. Don't be like an audience member of The View, both uninformed and as dumb as a rock.

I hope you’re joking! Who do you think pays for those multibillion dollar budget overruns every year?

Yeah, Crotchety Cowboy is clueless. He's got to be a Democrat, huh?

My service got bad to the point I got a UPS mailbox. At least I get my mail when it is sent there, especially checks. Have had checks disappear and no, they were not put into the dropbox.
Heard a guy at the P.O. yesterday say he had 42 checks stolen that he mailed off to pay bills and other stuff. Not all at once, of course.

And it still can’t manage to get mail delivered on time.
No lie, I got a Christmas card last week that was sent two months ago.
