Why didn't Trump release the word-for-word, comma-for-comma transcript?

Because that’s not how it’s done. Precedent shows that these conversations are summarized. Nice try, though.

Voters did not elect Trump in 2016. The Electoral College did. That's why he has no mandate because mandates come from voters.

Dems will get 5-7 million more popular votes (than Trump) in 2020 and overcome Trump's EC victory in 2016. PA, MI, WI, IA, and AZ will go for Dems this time. NC, FL, GA, and KS are 50-50 now.

Your first sentence is entirely immaterial. Both clinton and trump faced the same rules in 2016 and they both knew the goal was to win the most electoral votes. One candidate won, one lost.

This isn't hard to understand.

I am surprised a retired history teacher like yourself doesn't know that we are a federalist nation. We are politically organized as fifty individual states with relatively high levels of autonomy. We are NOT, politically speaking, organized as 330 million individual voters.

Muh "Romney, Lee, Sasse and other 'principled Republicans'" are on board, shouldn't the rest of America join them"?

You are a lying mother fricker.

That is the same as saying the Pirates won the 1960 World Series.

The last president who had a clear mandate from the voters was Ronald Reagan in 1984, when he garnered almost 60% of the popular vote and recorded the largest EC win in our history. Arguably, Billy Jeff had a mandate in 1996 with a decisive electoral college win and a margin of victory in the popular vote of more than 8 million, with the caveat that he still won less than 50% of the popular vote due to minor candidates.

Several of the people who responded directly to your post seem to be unable to grasp the difference between “legitimate victory“ and “mandate.“

Obviously, Trump won the election, pursuant to the United States Constitution. But a narrow electoral college victory and a loss in the popular vote (while a constitutional victory) does not constitute a “mandate.”

I would be quite surprised if this prediction comes to pass. I think that the Democratic candidate will likely again win the popular vote, but the electoral college analysis still tends to favor Trump very slightly, in my opinion.

Not only is it NOT “the same,” it is not remotely similar. he is not saying that Trump did not win. He is simply saying that the victory was not adequately-decisive to constitute a “mandate.“

My dream scenario is a 5mm popular lost in a win for trump.
