Oops, I’ve stumbled into a theism thread. I thought the subject was about the personal freedom to make decisions for oneself. Pardon.

When the act of procreation (and all the natural hardwiring that goes with it) was hijacked for commercial gain, that's when things started to go south. At that point, it signaled to the unprincipled masses that nothing was sacred anymore, and consequences for rogue behavior were a thing of the past (sound familiar??). Any type of deviant behavior was suddenly condoned. The degradation of a respectful society had been creeping along at a glacial pace for (20? 30?) years – imperceptible until the threat was suddenly at our doorstep. I expect a lot of opposing views and downvotes, many of which will come from those that criticize conservative politicians for remaining silent during the recent shitshow across the country, but I think it’s time we put society (that's me and you) up on the rack for a closer look. I think the purging of porn from our personal lives and replacing that time with worthwhile endeavors (especially in regards to family and marriage) is a good start.

I wonder if abortion tracked higher with the acceptance of pornography? It's all very insidious and there's little doubt most men under age 50 have no issues with pornography until I start asking them a few questions, like these.

Would you approve of your mother being a porn actress? Your sister? How about your wife? Your daughter? If they can honestly answer yes to any of those questions it illustrates how far people/society has fallen.

"God created things which had free will. That means creatures which can go wrong or right. Some people think they can imagine a creature which was free but had no possibility of going wrong, but I can't. If a thing is free to be good it's also free to be bad. And free will is what has made evil possible. Why, then, did God give them free will? Because free will, though it makes evil possible, is also the only thing that makes possible any love or goodness or joy worth having." (more from my old pal, Mssr. Lewis)

Yep. In Conway, Ark. about 15 years ago there was an article in the local paper about single moms and government handouts for people like her. She was a 25 year-old black woman with seven kids by five different dads. True story. She was making more money from the government than I was working.

If life as a welfare queen is as awesome as you say it is, why don't you quit working and join them?

You hear that folks? Nothing at all. Nothing!

What a terrible non-thinking generalization.

The continued poverty and crime within the black community, 100% has to do with LBJ's great society and not porn. The 70's saw a steep decline in the general welfare of the black community. This is before the internet. Are you telling me these poor inner city families consisting of the mom, and 3 kids, that the reason they were in the state they were in was because of porn?

Certainly porn can be blamed for a lot of things, but the degradation of the nuclear family is not one of them.

Right. And that's the point of Gollum, from what I understand.

I just think it's particularly applicable to porn, because it LOOKS just like porn use does. We become little creatures, literally hiding in dark rooms huddled over our "precious" pornography on our phones.

They are autonomous humans capable of making their own decisions. Why do you want to dictate others lives?

For supposed small government types, you folks sure do love to tell other people how to live their lives.

I agree. I think porn is a symptom, not a cause. You lose the family first, then you lose values.

Check out the down votes on any thread that challenges society's acceptance of porn and you're gonna get bombed. These people who come across as strictly libertarian on the porn issue are frauds and they know it. Ask them if they're good with their mother, sister, wife or daughter performing sex so other sick bastards can get their jollies? Most will either lie or say that question is irrelevant.

.I'm asking you. Are you fine with the women in your life having sex on the internet or film so some sick bastards can get their jollies? Be honest.

That's all you need to know. It's not just an "industry" anymore. It has infected girls' minds and conditioned them to think that their worth is solely in their sexual marketability.

What the heck else are they supposed to contribute? We stopped teaching home ec because of feminism. Young women aren’t taught to cook, clean, sew, or have any skills in keeping a home. Most women have few, if any, hobbies or interests that match up with most men. Thus, for a lot of women, the only things they can contribute are their sexuality and their income, which they have been taught to believe is theirs and theirs alone, while a man’s income belongs to both of them

Proposing what is the best course of action for individuals wishing to succeed in life isn’t “telling you how to live your life.” It’s your own conscience that’s bothering you. Not the poster. Deal with it. Maybe post on your brain rather than this thread.

No disrespect, but these are good examples of failing to make the connection. I don't think it's a chicken and egg debate. It's safe and convenient to take this position so you don't piss off/placate your friends and sphere of influence, but that's all it is - convenient. It's tough in today's world to take a definitive stance, but when you realize it's your God-given right, then it's not so hard.

And the safety aspect.. they don’t have to meet strange guys or whatever. They can sit in their bed and dudes will thirst and send them money
