I don't necessarily disagree with the sentiment, but I usually assume I would be considered a terrible Catholic compared to the man ordained as the Vicar of Christ.

I don’t think he’s wrong, but as the pope, he can’t say things like that.
God is the invention of humans/religion, and every religion leads to their image of god.

He’s right. And then once you drop all of the religious dogma you can experience authentic spirituality. God is within. Not out there somewhere.

Actually, NO.
HE IS THE anti-Christ.

I generally have not agreed with this pope on very much at all, but the one thing that has always bothered me about Catholicism is the belief that a majority od the human population is destined for eternal hell, just because they do not follow the relatively strict rigor of their religion.
I can't imagine the God I was raised to believe in being cool with that. Frankly, it makes me question religion in general.

That’s some Babylonian blasphemy.

Perhaps you misunderstand the situation. God is infinitely good and just. We have all sinned and violated his standard. His justice requires that violation be punished. We all deserve hell.
However, God’s love for us motivated him to provide the only substitution capable of satisfying the wrath of an infinitely Holy God, his own Son, Christ Jesus. Jesus lived the sinless life we are incapable of living and died a death on the cross that he did not deserve. He willing went to the cross to be the perfect substitute for us so that we would not have to spend eternity in hell satisfying the wrath of God for our sins.
By turning from our sins and trusting in what God did for us on the cross, we can receive forgiveness and spend eternity with the God who loved us enough, through no merit of our own, to die for us.
I’m sorry you may have been misinformed as to the nature of who God is and how he relates to us. The book of John in the Bible would be a good place to start in understanding what Jesus did and taught while here on earth through the eyes of an eyewitness.

No, I understand all of that. How does that address my concern that God is OK with letting the billions of people who are not of Christian religions rot in hell? Many of which are raised in third world shithole villages and never in their lives even hear about christianity. frick those guys, right?

Ahhhhhhhhh...... That's not what Jesus said!!!
He's directly contradicting scripture and the basic theological premise of Christianity.
How can anyone follow that man????
What more of a sign or warning do you need??

Your missing the point son. Entirely.
Yes, we all have sinned and need God's forgiveness, mercy, and GRACE.
Do YOU understand what that GRACE is??????
It's the work Jesus did for us on the cross.
Jesus's sacrifice is the only way to gain that forgiveness.
If you have a problem with that, talk to Jesus.
He plainly stated this many times in the Gospels and it's what Paul taught throughout the New Testament.
And..... If God/Jesus chooses to handle things in a different way, that's His decision, not the Pope's or anyone that has or ever will walk this earth. If you are comfortable with basing your salvation on anything other than what Jesus directed, you do you.

It’s a good question. Bear in mind that we all deserve hell and that God chooses to save any of us is an amazing act of grace. God would have been perfectly just to leave us to die in our sins. It’s a human notion of fairness that leads us down the path of thinking that God owes any of us salvation. Christ called his followers to make disciples of all nations and we have missions and missionaries all around the world as a result.

matthew 7 21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

That sounds like something a progressive dumbass would say who has no formal training or education on religion.
Him being the pope makes this utterly astounding.
What he says is absolutely, unequivocally, 100 percent in contrast to what is stated in the New Testament by Jesus himself.
"I am The Way, The Truth and The Life. No one comes to the Father except through me." - Jesus

I’m confused by your response. Grace would be God’s unmerited favor on us, the good he gives us that we do not deserve. My whole post discussed that grace.
